I Can't Move
« on: October 17, 2003, 03:36:22 am »
The problem is that I can log in, but I can\'t move. I know there has been a lot of lag because I\'ve been reading posts, but the game just completely freezes. Nobody moves at all. My CPU specs are

1.7 GHz
P4 Processor
GeForce video card, unsure of exact model
256MB RAM
Windows XP

I have it set for Windows 98 mode.
Also, is the chat channel supposed to cover up a good bit of the top right corner of the screen? Can I move it?
How can I fix my not being able to move?

All help will be appreciated. I can\'t update to 512MB RAM so if that is an absolute must, I\'ll have to wait til my dad gets me a new cpu.

*sigh*

I\'m not really sure if there\'s anything you can do to fix this. I\'d say run the Updater first of all, and try logging in at different times of day. It may be that you\'re stuck in one of the lag holes in the level... so you could also try logging in and holding the forward key for a few minutes, logging off, and returning later to see if you can move.

If that doesn\'t help, you should probably wait for Crystal Blue. Sorry :(

You can also try making a new character and see if that one suffers too from the freezing problem.
Maybe it\'s just that char.

just guessing.

There\'s not much to say about them. All I know is that certain areas of the level may cause players passing through them to steadily lose framerate untill they\'re only seeing 1 new frame every minute or so. There\'s many theoretical causes of this, but nothing has (or can be, really) proven.

Usually the best way to fix it is to type /spawn in the chat box and wait a few minutes for it to register, or hold the Foward key to run your character forward and, again, wait untill you can see the result.

I have heard of rare cases where, no matter what they may try, a character is never able to escape it, even after weeks of inactivity. They eventually had to create a new account. :(

I\'ll see if I can be helpful here.
\"Lag holes\" are usually located in areas where changing \"zones\" and in places with large views (Tower, Plaza).  I get lagged so bad on occasion I just walk away for a few minutes.

The key to manipulative bargaining is to ask for something twice as big as what you want, then smile and nod when you are talked down to your original wish. You are still young, my apprentice, and have much to learn in the ways of the force. -UtM

well, i\'ve got about the same specs as you and the game runs good on my computer.. you should try /spawn or maybe you even forgot to click outside the chatbox(you can\'t walk while chatting)

About the win 98 mode, I don\'t use it and it runs fine on my computer so maybe you should better turn it off.

Lag is a big problem and that one file someone was distributing to help lag (cant remember what post it was real old tho) isnt working or something. I would rather a game have somewhat good 3d graphics like planeshift does now and go really fast than new graphics and more lag! Get rid of the major lag devs and this game will be a gem! :O

well, not as much lag, well, almost no lag except for a few spots. :) I guess setting to normal XP mode (not Windows 98 compatible) fixed the problem. Thabks for that solution, I\'m enjoying the game now. See ya. Gotta go play!
