`forgetting`skills
« on: November 28, 2003, 03:15:36 am »
ok thats the idea:
if you play a mage and for some reason you want to learn how to handle a sword, then you will have to invest time progressing in that skill.
time you cannot take to train your magical abilities.
so for every 3 points (as an example) you gain in swordskill you loose 1 point in your main caster school.
(like red,dark and so on)
so if you have a skill of 50 in red magic and you start with a sword, skilling that to lvl 15 you will end up with
15 sword 45 red magic
a mage will never be as good with a sword as a fighter and vice versa.think this would be a good idea to prevent that.

I\'ve said it before, and I\'ll say it again:

Any skill system that discourages players from creating \"interesting\" players by forcing them to loose experience in their skills seems like a terrible idea.

I see what you\'re getting at, trying to keep things balanced.  However, this will occur naturally in the game: a person who spends half their time learning swordfighting and half their time learning magic will be able to perform both skills with relative effecitiveness.  However, he will never be as good with magic as a pure wizard, or as good at fighting as a true swordsman.

after thimking about this for a while i have to accept what you say as true.
i was thinking more about the hardcore players that afer 7 days of gameplay reach an insane skill lvl.
these are often the non rp players.
often the ones that love to hack n slash.and mostly the ones longing for full pvp.
but then ps will be ever evolving so everybody will have time to develop, and if you train your skills you should be rewarded.
well, lets see what the future brings:)

I have played games like this, where it was too easy (and too common) to get your character to the highest level in a matter of days.  Don\'t worry, this won\'t be the case with PS  8)

good to know.anyways for this time i wont care.
i have finally found a graphically cool game with a good char creation and lots of freedom.
and what os best,a what seems to be big rp community.
so let them get as high as the sky in 5 days i will drive them insane with my merchant swordskill level 1:)
