I have this idea for a way to implement a quick key system in PS.
The idea came to me when I was playing Hostile Water, most of the interface in it can be access with the keypad.
So I though... \"Hey! Plane Shift could have a similar hotkey system!\"
It could be a two layer hot key system.
This is how it works. The first key (1~9) could determine the category of the hotkey (Items, Spells, Skills, etc), which can be customized by the players. The leftover keys could be tied (again, customized by players) to some highly used skill/spells (heal, fireball, etc). 0 if reserved for other actions such as return to previous menu (or for spell selection/customization, cancel the spell).
If a category key is pressed, the next key press determines what will be used (if its in the item category, which items to use, if its in the spell category, which spell).
A further extension is if said actions requires more info (customizing spell, select a member in party), those info could also be entered from the keypad. Here\'s what the player might do.
Player hit 2, open up spell menu.
Hit 3, heal spell
Hit 5, the fifth party memeber.
This way, player could customize a large amount of short cuts that are accessible with just a few keypress in the same area.
A 3X3 grid could also be displayed on screen to show what each key would represent.
