Standardized measurements
« on: April 04, 2005, 09:10:59 am »
With all the talk about carts/horses/etc. to get back and forth now that stamina has been introduced, I\'d like to ask the settings developer to set a standard measurement for the amount of space in between the wheels of carts in Yliakum.

The reason why civilizations have done this in the past, for those of you who don\'t know already, is because when carts travel on dirt roads (and there were many in medieval times), they leave ruts. If a cart falls into a rut, it can break its axle, so way back in the day, they set regulations for the length of axles so they would all fit neatly into the ruts.

Now why does this matter? Once this number is set, I can suggest that our main roads have ruts on them (either modeled, or textured) making it just a wee bit easier to follow the road.

(It also adds some more obscure trivia to the current tomes, and really, who doesn\'t like obscure trivia?)

I know some my posts are crazy, but what you\'re asking from a developers point of view is an insane amount of world redesign, and coding.

If we\'re going to come up with things, they should be easy to implement.  Horses, and such, I doubt there\'s even models, let alone the thought required to code them, and the begginings of such code.  It might, and I could be looking like a total idiot.  Though, they are the implementation list.

But in fairness, there\'s far more relevant things to dream up or work the bugs out of.  Though the history lesson is informative.

;) Peace man.

Actually, it would be as simple as saying - \'The width of all axles will be X meters.\'

It requires NO redesign - edit existing textures.

Models for wagons exist - you can see them lying around - they just aren\'t used.

You don\'t look foolish - I do for not properly verbalizing my idea! Sorry about that! :P

The carts are about.  You\'re right.  Forgot about those.  Was trying to figure out if I could get creature to get stuck behind them, found the lamp posts/stick work just as well.

I get major lags walking through the door to enter than area, and a rogue you kills me, as  my HDD is chunking.  So I hadn\'t travelled that way in a bit.

I was getting way more complicated in my mind than what you were suggesting, effect of parital dreaming while one is awake.  It\'s cool man.

Yeah, it would be a texture change, I thought you were actually talking modelling ruts into the path way so they show up as divets.  ;) Weee... that\'s funny.

It\'s okay, we\'re all a little looney around here, it\'s what makes it fun.  Peace.
