lets get fatigued
« on: January 24, 2005, 02:03:49 am »
like with fatigue that will be good because it will slow players down and it has been proven that gamers that go slow have less stress and generally more fun, generally.

but like what WoW did was have this other thing like tiredness where the more tired you were the less exp you got

and your tiredness increased as the day went by or maybe it was as you did stuff

anyway to get less tired you had to sleep, which was pretty much log off, and where you logged off determined how fast you recovered, so like an inn would make you rest well but the sewers wouldnt

and when you were 0% tired you got something like 100% bonus to exp and when you were 100% tired you got 0% bonus to exp

and this was done to kinda bring power gamers and casual gamers closer in terms of how fast they got experience

so like this doesnt make power gamers get experience as the same rate as casual gamers because thats silly, powergamers earn all their stuff through dedication but it makes it easier for casual players to compete with powergamers

also if people are resting they can go outside in rl and have fun doing stuff

but anyway i hope fatigue is implemented soon hehe slow those people down

I have another idea on fatigue:
It could influence your regeneration rate of HP and Mana.
If you are fully rested, you regenerate them really fast.
By fighting, running, mining etc. you get tired, and your regeneration rate goes down. So a tired character gets killed more easily in combat, which to my mind adds a great amount of realism to the game in a simple way.

In order to rest, you could stand still (medium to strong recovery), walk (low to medium recovery) or stay in a tavern (very fast fatigue recoverey, especially if you drink and eat).

As long as nothing as stupid as the fatigue system in TGTSNBN is implemented I\'m all in favor of a fatigue system.

fatigue - tired

In RL there is a biological difference between fatigue and tiredness.
When you are fatigue, you`re organism has an energy-deficiancy. The muscles dont have enough ATP or the oxygen-level is too low.
But tiredness is a phenomenon which is linked with the periodicity of the body. The whole organism is controlled over numerous time emitters. The origin of this can be located a.o. in the movement of the sun and the tides.
So there are different types of periodes: daily, monthly and annual ones.
The daily one is the one which matters here.
There have to be time to sleep in a day, although you didnt work hard.
This should be taken in account, when discussing this topic. This difference in RL could be taken into the game by following:
There are separate measurements of fatigue and tiredness.
Fatigue (simalar to stamina now) has an effect on the damage done, the velocity and range a char can go. When a char is fatigue, he can only walk slowly and do less damage, but gets full xp by doing things.
The level of tiredness is (comparable to jagged alliance 2, if anyone knows) the max. amount the stamina (fatigue) can be restored. Tiredness is only related to the time a char is awake and \"drugs\" like coffein or other push-ups ;)
In PS it also could affects the amount of xp (in percentage), the probability to hit or to succeed in other activities. Everyone who once was really tired in school, knows what I am talking about.

What do you think about this?

There are many pros and cons about logging off and on again...
In some cases it could be good to force someone to log off. But somebody who is mostly playing at night dont want to be logged off. A powerplayer who really wants to play will play two chars simultaneously. One char resting, the other playing. Also you must ask the question, how long (in rl-time) the \"rest\" should last. This thread is about the relation between rl-time and ingame-time.

I have an idea:
There could be a compromise between beeing logged off and beeing logged on.
A poweruser cant be stopped just by forcing him to log off. But it could be useful to remember him...
So what I propose is a long enough night-phase that the normal users will be forced to log off and enjoy rl (just what you said). For the ones who want to stay online at any cost, there could be a spell or something alike to recharge the tiredness but on cost of HP. It would be like a drug, which weakens your body but strengthen your mind. Tiredness will  regenerate linear to the resting-time. HP on the other side will regenerate more slowly the lower it got by the drug.
It should not be necessary to be offline to get rest, but you can.
There could be even some event while rest like dreaming. There are other threads which propose such things, so they could be implemented as well.
