Mouselook suggestion
« on: November 13, 2003, 10:51:33 am »
Since my post got thrown to the plaza, here\'s the relevant suggestion part again:

How I\'d like to see the mouselook redone is \"Morrowind style\", if you\'ve played Morrowind you know that there\'s crosshair cursor and you don\'t have to activate cursor yourself, simply \"look\" an object (ie. point the crosshair into it) and click to select it. In Morrowind menus and other windows are activated using right mouse button, that also works like a charm imo - maybe some ideas how the user interface could be developed in future releases?

I would also like to see some shortcuts for commonly used actions, maybe something like double clicking a player does a greet action, double clicking a pickable item picks it up, double clicking a book opens it et cetera.

i personally like the idea of using a \"crosshair\" to interact with the enviroment in mouse look mode.

build a man a fire, warm him for a day...
set a man on fire, warm him for the rest of his life...

If PS is to have a crosshair feature in First Person View mode, it should be togglable. I think crosshairs are ugly. :P

As for the shortcuts, I believe the devs are on the same thoughwave. If you\'ve seen any of the development screenshots that have been floating around, you\'d notice that the chat interface how has shortcut buttons for Say, Shout, Guild talk, etc.

I would have to go pro-cross hairs. Or I\'ll just put dry erase marker on my moniter...

For shortcuts you could control-click something (as long as control isn\'t the long awaited \"crouch\" key) or if you press some key while your crosshairs, invisible or not, it does the corresponding action. This might get in the way if you want to say something and you wanted just to start typing.

I think double-clicking is good, but might be hard if the target is moving. But a bit of a challenge there might be fun...

I think I\'ll be playing the game in third person view.  In fact, I can\'t imagine you\'ll be able to go into combat in first person view.  I think it\'s primarily going to be there for just looking around and admiring the graphics.
Ninjas have feelings too.  Mostly they feel like dancing.

OT:

Note: I don\'t know if I\'m supposed to post this, so please don\'t kill me, devs  ;(

As for the shortcuts, there is a feature in CB that basically allows you to type in a series of commands (whatever you could type in the little chat box) and assign it to a little button.  Whenever you click on that button, it runs all the commands you typed in.

I\'d post a SS of it, but I was specifically told not to, so sorry  :(

Way OOC:

Wedge, you live in Seattle(ish)?  So do I  :P

How I set my timezone:

ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/Antarctica/Davis /etc/localtime

It\'s a good idea to have a crosshair if you\'re an archer or a mage ... Well , you must know who you\'re aiming at , don\'t you ? And you must aim fast without of half hour search of target with PS\'s currnet mouselook .
Crosshair wouldn\'t do harm for a warriors as well ... Just in case there will be body dammege system ... Or am I dreaming ? ;)

Shortcutmenu or bar would be nice as well .

But double right click on moving targets ?! More looks like torture to me :D

And menu - it\'s good as it is ...Well mostly There is no need to redo this game to Morrowind :) ... It must be unique ... And currently it is .

Oooh like a macro? If it isn\'t in CB I\'m sure someone could make something like that.
It\'s already (kinda) in Aineko\'s mods for MB, you have to edit a textfile for the macro\'s though (nothing wrong with that).
