Group Combat & Respawn:
« on: July 28, 2004, 12:45:09 pm »
I would like to emphasize Group Combat because I believe that it greatly enhances roll playing opportunities like hunting parties of nobles & thieving gangs.

When I played this one game-that-shall-not-be-named I always looked for people to start a ?party? with & go hunting with, not for the exp. (In fact, I could get almost twice as much exp hunting alone) I did it because I greatly enjoyed the company & RP opportunities it brought about.

I would encourage that we should find a way to have more exp benefits for a group play as apposed to single-player hack?n?slash style playing. Like, maybe every member that joins your party gives it an extra 20 to 30% ?bonus? on exp/money, but that we limit groups to about 10 to 15 people or less so that this possible ?bonus? would not be exploited by people forming 1 large group of 50 people, & everyone go hunt on there own & get a big stream of exp. This would unbalance the game, favoring larger guilds & stuff?

One thing I hated about group play is that, if someone in my group died, then I would have to wait for them to walk all the way back from wherever the spawn location is & I think that waists time & would be a down side for group play, so I propose that when you die you have 2 options, you can ether respawn in town as usual or wherever, or you can choose a ?Ghost Mode? were you turn semi-transparent & pail & you can?t interact physically with the world. You can still say stuff in chat, but monsters wouldn?t bother you & you can?t do anything until you are fully healed, or however long we want to make the waiting period. After that time is up, you respawn as normal except, you respawn in the same place you left your body laying down on the ground. Possibly we could have dark way spells that you are able to separate from your body to for spying purposes etc.

Another way would be that the party or team captain (the one who started the group) is in fact the respawn location, that would take care of allot of that, but maybe we could have Respawn flags, everyone respawns were the flag is placed, only people in the group can see the flag & group leader sets it. We could also have individual flags like save points for people who are not in groups to choose there respawn location? What do you think of this flag idea?

I think the advantage of group play should be limited to the ability to defeat more powerful challenges, and the advantage of multiple specialisations.  As far as I understand, in PS you only get experience in specific skills, when you use those skills or otherwise act to enhance them so I don\'t see how the \"XP bonus\" idea smoothly fits in (as PS doesn\'t seem to be \"leveling\" game).

Perhaps acting in groups could increase \"social skills\" or diplomacy or charisma?  Still, parties that are spread out are not parties;  and also when someone is dead, I think that they should be effectively out of the party for a while;  as far as I understand the concept of the \"death realm\" they\'ll be able to escape to somewhere near where they died (but we\'ll see in CB!)
