I don\'t think Crystal magic and dark creatures work particularily well together, though I did read crystal has some good offensive magic too. Just because someone studies crystal doesn\'t mean they\'re gonna heal a dying man-they could very well take him out with a lightning bolt and rummage through his pants for whatever he was carrying.

Black magic, also, does not have to be used for evil. Some guy could summon an army of zombies, but that doesn\'t mean he\'s going to murder pillage and rape. He could very well send them off against another bad guy.

Basically, I\'m just repeating Zyphon to entertain myself.

If a creature such as an undead enemy was attacked with a healing spell, wouldn?t that kill it? I mean, well, are there going to be weaknesses applied like blue way spells have more effect on monsters that are naturally on fire, & all that? :D

Well, to continue this debate.

The \"way\"(bad pun) I look at it is:

Crystal (White) Way basically represents \"growth\" or \"generation\". Such as regrowing flesh or generating a massive psionic pulse that blasts everything and their uncle to the next stalagtite....

 Ahem,

And Dark (Black) Way represents \"drain\" and the \"interaction/manipulation\" with the planes. Like trying to drain life from a Kran or calling some creature from a hellish plane of exsistance.

- as for Corpsewalk, I always thought of it as more of a wind-element spell. Never really got why it was put into the black/unholy genre (aside from the whole forbidden magics thing).

ok, this is for all you people who think that Dark Way doesn\'t have to be evil / necromancer can be good.

Look at everything with the eyes of necromancer who decided to be \"good\":

After years of training, now you became a fully skilled necromancer. You control the powers of death and darkness, but what was the main reason to join this path? As a lad you wanted to stand against the evilness. Being raised on a street, seeing murder and suffering everyday made you want to fight it back. And what if you\'d turn the darkness against the darkness? Grasp the amazing power and make the bandits die for all crimes they did. That was your caling and that got you onto the Dark Way. But things didn\'t go as you\'d like them to. Soon you realised that it\'s a dangerous way to go. Your mind was now filled with what you controlled. Death, darkness, demons... it all focused in it. More years passed and the pain was growing. Your mind became a portal for all of the dark forces. You could hear the souls of victims of murdering, diseases, famine screaming inside. Your soul drowned in agony, but you walked further and further. You remembered your mission - to help the mankind. Now, your training is over. You can start what you always wanted to do. Chase the evil doers and make them kneel under your amazing powers. But days pass and even tho\' your training is over, the pain won\'t go away. Your mind is still filled with death, you still hear the angry souls inside. At night you find yourself staring blankly at the ceiling, knowing, that once you close your eyes, you\'ll face the nightmares that closed in your mind only wait to get loose. Views of death and anger... finally fear - it all gains control once you fall asleep. You\'re going insane, the pain won\'t go and it gets stronger and stronger. More days pass and now you see as your skin rottens, but is it because of your rituals or just another hallucination - you do not know. You stay away from all the people, fearing that they\'ll see the state of your body and accuse you either of spreading disease or studying necromancy. You are alone now. Alone in your pain and you know that no one will help you. But this changes. It\'s another sunny day, you\'re sweating under your robe. All the mental pain weakened your body and you need a walking stick just to go anywhere. Suddenly you see a group of bandits attack a family. You know that this is what you were waiting for. With simple dark spell you defeat them. You feel somewhat better now. Some of the darkness that accumulated in your mind is gone now. Pain is still there, but is weaker now. The family wants to thank you, but you can\'t let them see your body... you walk away. You discovered that by killing all the bandits you can lower your own pain and thus your mission begins. You kill every raider you see on your way. But with each spell the portal in your mind gets bigger and bigger. You start to see insects eating your flesh, you need to kill more to stay sane. One day you see greedy merchant selling some cure under enormous price to a little girl. You follow him into a dark alley and then drain life out of him. You see death in his eyes, you now feel that you aren\'t alone in your misery. In your lust for death you didn\'t think that it was the greed that made the merchant come to this place filled with disease. No one will sell cure to this girl anymore. She and her family will die. But you still need to kill, it\'s the only way to keep your mind.

A town is burning, corpses are lying everywhere. Only you stand alive there. You look around at your act of destruction. You are free from pain now and your body is strong again. Death doesn\'t control your mind anymore... you are death yourself...


There you have it, Dark Way isn\'t so non-evil anymore once you understand what pain it can cause to one\'s mind. Remember that understanding your char is important part of rp...
Of course it doesn\'t have to end this way... you can always kill yourself or fall under control of demons you summoned \'till now.
Face it people, even now, once you start playing with death - you\'ll quickly go insane... And think what may happen in a fantasy world where you can gain even bigger connection with afterlife.

As per usual Draklar kicked this discussion in the nuts with a great discription of the way that darkness creeps in. !!Props!!
Good Role Playing demands that you live inside yur\' character\'s mind. Even when you are not \'playing\' you can be thinking about your character\'s evolution in the world. Sure some players can start playing as a \"good\" practicioner of Dark magic but it kind of demands that you take into account the route that the character\'s body and mind will be pulled. The same with an evil character using Light/Crystal magic.
To use a tired example. The Star Wars universe allows any one with Jedi powers to use either Dark or Light side powers at their discresion but you won\'t reach your full potential in either if you stay neutral. You can only gain power in a way by submitting yourself to it.
It\'s a Zen thing, in as much as a blacksmith has to be \"one\" with his hammer the Practicioner of any \'way\' has to be one with their way, or they will always be second rate.

Now back to my hole.
