Animals Hunting Animals & Roaming:
« on: August 02, 2004, 03:17:58 pm »
In most games I have played the animals & enemies usually just sit in one spot waiting for you to come & pass by. I think this is extremely unrealistic. I personally would like to see some more movement in Animals, behavior like Hunting for other animals so you could probably find a Rabbit being chased down & killed by a Wolf & other animals fighting over territorial disputes. I think this would add a realism & depth to the behavior of Animals & enemies.

Also stuff like NPC\'s Hunting for rabbits, they could ask you to help them & they go hunting too, instead of just staying in one place. I think it would give the NPC more Character if the NPC Walked around Town if no-one was talking with them. If someone Targeted them then they would stop walking around until untargeted.

Also there could be scenarios that are randomly generated by the server in which a NPC is being attacked by a monster & you have to help them, if you kill the monster before it kills the NPC then the NPC will give you a reward. The animal will steal the Reward otherwise, so you can\'t steal it off his body, or maybe you can\'t take stuff off NPC bodies? I am not sure...

animal roaming would give more realisme indeed, it would be very cool to see a wolf chasing a rabbit or something but i don\'t think that npc\'s will be able to run their own lives and go hunt for rabbits and stuff
but it would be cool if there are guards in the city that they are patrolling or to make it look more like a city with people than city of statue\'s just standing there till you tell them something, roaming is something i would like to see :p

heheehhe, i really like this idea ^^, but i think it takes a lot of work to program a thing like that (but i dont know nothing about programing, so is just a guess ^^), but it will give MUCH more realism to the game (also i dont like wen games have generic quests, so the escaping npc would be a gooo idea ^^) also for this idea the programers should have a considerable knoledge about biology and animal behavior, so they even can create a new job ( something like a naturalist...or the allways famous rangers), and that way makes the game more interesting wen you have to track the monsters footprints, or enter their territory and find carcases of already eated animals^^, is a lot of work, but its a nessesary step to perfection ^___^....

Very interesting indeed. GuildWars actually has something like monsters hate monsters... I remember trying to escape from a Charr (giant bull like monster) when he suddenly stops and starts to kill a scorpion lol. Anyway, maybe this (or part of it) will be possible in future updates. Would make the game a lot more deep and really help roleplay ^_^

I missed GuildWars but I am not a hard-core monster-basher so I guess I didn?t miss much. I would think that Animal vs. Animal would be harder to program then a NPC fallowing a simple path around town? but later on you could try & make the movement more random? I think the Ranger would be good if there are rare animals that you have to hunt & track down & avoid they players. These would be very valuable furs & teeth etc. also I think thieves will be able to set traps I read somewhere, why not have Trappers that specialize in making animal traps?
