Stops Responding at Splash Screen
« on: July 31, 2004, 12:23:11 am »
I just downloaded the Planeshift files, installed the game, ran the Updater, made sure to update the settings in the Setup (making sure to select Full Screen, though I tried it without as well). I ran the game, the splash screen came up, and then it stopped responding. I couldn\'t even get to the character creation screen. There didn\'t appear to be any other threads that mentioned this, so I\'m hoping someone out there can let me know if I\'m missing a step or if this is a common problem.

I\'m running Windows XP, so I changed the compatibility on the psclient.exe to Windows 98/ME. I changed the setting from OpenGL to Software. I turned sounds on, then off. I tried using the Safe Mode loader. None of the suggestions to issues that were vaguely similar to mine seemed to help.

How much RAM do you have? Do you have any anti-virus running?

RAM is 256, and no virus protection running. I have an NVIDIA GeForce4 graphics card with 64 MB RAM.

This keeps happening to me too, but I have a windows 2000 and I\'m not sure if I have a virus/firewall protector or anything... sometimes I get in, but sometimes it just freezes up... I tried restarting then going on and it worked once, but then gave me the error that there was something wrong with my database.
Is there anyway to fix this?
