A way to rp a race change?
« on: August 27, 2004, 08:23:39 am »
I\'ve been reading up about this death realm thing and to me this seems like a perfect way to implement a race change...  ie your spirit simply finds a new vessel to wander around in.  You wouldn\'t lose any mental skills as your intelligence is carried around with your spirit but there could be some random physical attribute changes (ups and downs) depending on the new body.
Well that\'s just my theory for changing races... so don\'t flame me *hides behind noob shield*

So... your intelligence stays, but everything else gets changed. Bad idea, really. There are a few reasons for this:

1) Imagine seeing a kran having the highest number of intelligence points in the world. How did he get that? You do the thinking.

2) If a kran switches to lemur for example, talk about a rather unintelligent lemur.

The idea is okay, it\'s just flawed and unusable in this environment. Maybe in a singleplayer game. It would simply be much more effective to have the ability to recreate a character with the same name, and nothing else stays. You need to remember that maybe -you- remember everything you did in your previous life, but your character doesn\'t. The spirit doesn\'t carry memories or anything. It simply... is there. If you choose to die, your life dies with you.

By the way, moving to wishlist.

I rember that in the Roleplaying forum someone managed to RP a change from one character to another. I can not remember how though.
Under construction

It is through suggestions and critisisms that we improve our ideas

So you keep your int and lose your str?
Not everyone wants to be mage :P

It is easier to hate than it is to love.

Consider this:  What if someone wants to roleplay a new character but doesn\'t want to \"lvl up\" to be effective?
The key to manipulative bargaining is to ask for something twice as big as what you want, then smile and nod when you are talked down to your original wish. You are still young, my apprentice, and have much to learn in the ways of the force. -UtM

how about simply your atributes are transfered? if you were a strong kran you would become a agile ekinda (or wat ever, i mean the cat)

your classes would be the same because all races can be wepon smiths and animal tamers etc. also in the next form you take your charicter would suffer racial benifits and disadvantages.

i think it would be good if you had to complete a DR quest to change your body, like who ever runs the DR says hes foud a vesil for your spirit but you have to prove your strong/smart/agile enough to inhabit it. the quests are repeatable (incase you want to change back) but there is a different DR quest for each race you want to become.

hmmz..i\'d say just dont implement a race change.  If your not happy, then just make another character.  Again not satisfied?  Then just try to pick a GOOD CHARACTER FOR ONCE!!!!

yeah, i\'de say thats an all around to-so-great idea. While it would be cool, the intelligence staying the same and everything else changing is stupid. Maybe LEVEL stays the same and all stats revert to race bases, plus mods you are wearing....

Mageranger: Things will be different in Crystal Blue. There will be ways to delete characters and there will definitely be more than one character slot.

nacraw: There will be no \"levels\" in PS, only skills.

I totally agree with this, I think that the choice of your race at the begining is part of the fun, you have to deal with your disadvantages if you want to do something that you didn\'t thought you would do at the begining. well I know I have some problems to express myself but I\'m sure you got that ! didn\'t you ? :)

4 slots to be exact, unless they changed it recently.

Did you mean something like this; If you have a problem with what you did, then re-do it, as in make a new character? That would seem like the most obvious thing to do, and usually also the only way of doing it. Re-rolling characters never was a good idea, as it allows a very powerful fighter to - in a matter of minutes - turn into a very powerful mage.

If someone wishes to change what they\'re good at, then they\'ll have to do it just like everyone else does. There\'s no easy way around anything.

Yes I think that\'s what I meant (I say \'think\' because I could misunderstand what you\'ve said... raaa if only I could speak english correctly ...) thank you for translating gronomist :)

By \'4 slots\' do you mean 4 characters by account ? what prevents us from creating 10 accounts and thus having 40 characters ?

Nothing as far as what I know... But what would you possibly need 40 characters for? :)
