Cut-scenes

I know this wouldn\'t be a priority for a long time, but:

The question is how to implement them.  You could always have your community artists draw one up, then move things around in flash.  (relic style! :) )Then you\'d get voice actors from the community to voice parts, and...

Alternatively, you could have a \"Cinematic Mode\", supposing you had enough Emotes, where the dialog would run as subtitles.  The camera could be controlled by the player, and the scene recorded...

Any thoughts?

The recording option is quite close. CS has already a movierecorder plugin and PS lets you control the camera. So depending on the emotes in CB you should be able to record cutscenes. AFAIK most movie editors can inseretr subtitles. But you have to download them and  view in a mediaplayer instead of watching the movie ingame.

most definitely not going to be priority for a long time. But that would be extremely cool... recording would simply be interfacing with the crystal space movie recorder plugin. But there would have to be a veritable mob of animators to make all the emaotes necessary so there would be enough variety to make such things interesting...

for cut scences you would have to have instancing which is not part of this game. i do believe though they are going to have that in \"the matrix online\" though so if you are doing a mission and talking to some guy it cutscences and such meh who knows.

upon entry leave your shoes.....dont want them dirty after i kill you = P

You could have it triggered by a GM.  You\'d only need to ask.
I think a lot of RP events could be done that way.

Actually, in Final Fantasy 11, in the cut scenes(or before i mean) the screen will go blank for a sec, and it will be the NPC\'s and you, and no one else. The easiest solution to trigger cut scenes would be either trading the NPC or talking to a npc.

Implementing cut-scenes & dialog:
« Reply #7 on: September 12, 2004, 05:29:23 pm »
Ya, I was thinking that cut-scenes could be client-controlled so we don?t have to wait for someone to be done with there cut-scene, not all quests are going to be random right? & You could even have cut-scenes for them generated by the server, the gui would disappear & the screen would go to wide-scene & then there would be a couple of animations & text sub-titles? maybe some action like a fight scene between 2 npc?s or something? of course even though there are going to be non-random quests that doesn?t mean that everyone is going to do them all, you need quests for bakers & weapon smiths & stuff too. Basically a client-controlled camera movement & animation with a cinematic wide-screen view. You don?t have to make .avi movies for the cut-scenes. There should be a ?skip cut-scene? function like [Esc] to end cut scene, that would mostly be if you did not want to get dragged into watching a cut-scene you have already seen.

Oh! What about you can change the dialog of the cut-scene, more of like a menu format, unfortunately as of now when you talk to a npc you have to type in what you want to say, & really the npc does not have enough phrases to respond to, I would think this would be a long & tedious process to think up things people will ask & respond to them, if we are going to have 100 npc?s or even more I would think this a hard task, but it is very tedious to talk to the npc?s in-game as of now, it would be much easier to talk with npc?s if there were some key-words to work with or even menus or list to select something the npc will accept. Maybe just basic phrases even like ?How are you doing today?? & ?What do you like to do?? & ?Can I do something for you?? You know basic phrases your going to be asking the npc?s over & over again? right now I feel that I am talking a language the npc does not understand & I only know a little bit of ?npc talk? it?s annoying when type a long sentence & maybe typo one word & the npc says ?I don?t know what your talking about  ?(? ? I would think this would make it especially difficult for people who know English as a second language?

I was actually thinking of cut-scenes between player-characters.

Actually, I meant non-quest related ones...

FF11 has many cut scenes between quests and missions..somewhat like you are talking about, and once you start doing rank missions together in large groups you will be able to be in that cut scene together. Now once Chains of Promethia is released there is to be a major cutscene airship armada where hundreds of people can be involved in so I heard, supposively a fight against Bahamut >.>

So if thats the kind of thing you are after, its very much possible but I have no clue to how easy or hard it would be.

Its a good idea, but I would like to see the cut scenes stop and let the player choose the way to continue whatever is happening more.

I don\'t really like these, because the character\'s look / actions are, more often than not, totally different from the real thing. They\'re nice, but I\'d rather see the dev. time spent elsewhere.

Hm...story cut-scenes...that would really have been cool...say like something happened...Talad killed Laanx (just joking) and there would be a cut scene of that...other solution is make movies...when something like that happens when you log in a event movie is played...i\'m not really talking about animated movies but rather graphical novel ones...like...let\'s say in Baldur\'s Gate...which consist of cool looking not moving movies...well almost not movies...
