Help Creating Char
« on: September 17, 2004, 10:06:45 pm »
Hello,

I just downloaded PlaneShift and made a character. But when I click the upload button it takes about 30 seconds to reply with the message, \"The server is not running or is not reachable. Please check the website or forums for more info.\" Well the forums says it\'s up, but not for me! My server is set as planeshift.fragnetics.com. Do I register a character in the game or on the site? Help!

Disable your firewall / make it accept ingoing and outgoing traffic on UDP port 13331.

Thread moved,  by the way.

Ok thanks very much, but now there\'s a new problem! When it is \"Initializing World,\" it freezes up and seems to be loading forever. Well I thought it might just take a while since I read on the site that a known bug is that it takes 20-50 minutes to load on slow computers. When I came back about half an hour later I saw that it had crashed, with an error message. Why is this? My system specs are P4 CPU, 128 MBRam, Nvidia GeForce 2 graphx card, and have 4+ gigs memory free. Why is it crashing and not loading!?!

Most likely problem is your RAM, since windows itself uses almost all of the physical memory that you have.
Planeshift uses a lot of memory while loading, so during the initializing world process, most likely takes up all of your physical and virtual memory, and then crashes.
