Guilds: How would you do it?
« on: December 23, 2004, 11:41:14 pm »
I don\'t see much discusion going on here so I thought I would start one.

A lot of games have groups that work together on a comon goal in all games there are little differences on how those groups work. Alliances, clans, guilds whatever you call them the game you play makes it different. Now Planscape is not like most games and different to the games that are in the same catagory.

Now how does everyone see the guilds work? How do you see guilds get guildproperties? Should the guild demand 10% of the money members earn? Or should they ask members to give their old equipment to the guild?

What should a guild offer minimum?

Ofcourse some will depend on what options you will have in CB seeing I heared the guildsystem will have some differences to in MB. Only natural ofcourse :)

I hope to hear from others and if you have an opinion but it isn\'t an answer don\'t be afraid to throw it in the ring aswell. I am just wondering what the opinions are that people here have.

Im one of the leaders of the Sentinels of the Ragnarok and I still am not sure.  I was thinking maybe 5% of what they make goes to the guild and the money would only be used to either help out other members of the guild or for the purchasing of a house, shop, or castle when it is possible.

hmmm so many guilds and so few to answer ;) Guess I am not the only one still wondering how it is going to work then ;)

Thanks for your answer Valbrandr :)

I think the problem with % will be making sure they pay you I mean how do you make sure they give you 5% and not only 3% of the money they found? Atleast with the adventurers it will be hard to check if your not there yourself. :(

It is Planeshift not Planescape and why should guilds work diferently here then anywhere else?
It is a guilds decision to structure themselves however they like and it is the guilds that do this correctly, however they decide, that will succeed where the others fail.

nag nag nag ;) OK so I used to play runescape a bit aswell :)

Anyhow to answer your question in my opinion in planeshift the guilds are different becuase

1. They can get properties. A lot of games the guild can\'t have properties or atleast not properties that are obtained through money that the player could otherwise use for personal improvement like new weapons.

2. There is no obvious way a guild should obtain it\'s own money to obtain the properties. It doesn\'t seem like you can simply takeover territory and ask taxes or take over a mine and get income like this.

3. The obvioues one, the game is new so there are no guilds already that have specific rules that are genrally accepted. In many games that have been running for a while you see there useally isn\'t that much options left if you want to start a guild becuase people don\'t accept changes to unwritten rules on a large scale and so it\'s hard if not impossible to start up a guild with a whole different mindset.

4. Planeshift has several ways to improve yourself while in a lot of games you don\'t have that many options and sometimes it\'s only the means and not really the end thats changed like being a great swordsmen or being a great sniper. Both are means to kill a monster.

5. becuase of the different ways in the society there will be a lot of different kind of guilds as in other games the guilds useally have very little differences to what there goals are.

Maby it is best to just give a amount that a player schould pay like 100 trias a month.

Or you could say that you whould look at the job, and find out what like 10% is of the medium income, Although this is realy time expansive in the beginning.
it whould give more income, plus the tax is easyer to be paid. So that a farmer whould not have to pay 80% of its income and a smith only 10%.

I just say give up your old items because:

1) they could lie about ow much money they have

2) they could just not pay if there was a debt to pay monthly

3)And even if no (old) items are given its not great of a loss

But thats just me I\'m the loner thats never In a guild because I hate working with people.... So I most likely have no clue what I\'m talking about :)

Maybe I would be a good idea to post a topic in the wishlist where you ask for an guild option to ask \"tax\" from guild members. This way no member could \"cheat\" and collecting money for guilds would get alot easier. If some one gives away a weapon to the guild then the guild could always give money back.

:OP.S. Planescape is a big nono here and Rune-scape even worse.
P.S.S. A taxrate of 0% would give no tax (for the guild leaders that don\'t want to do taxes).
