two things, one, I ran the updater, nothing happened, nothing other than the registry, what problems might this cause?

second, um, when can we expect an update enough so that we can play the game?

-this\'d be helpful... Thanks
I think therefore imac. Steve Jobs and co. are geniuses keep going Apple!

working with CVS
« Reply #137 on: January 23, 2005, 07:02:11 pm »
Thanks for the tip sinclair !

After spending more than a day on it (yes, it was my first time compiling with the terminal...;) ), i finally got it to work.

I also have to remove the ignore and shortcutcommands xml files after the first run to reload the game, and I don\'t think I got any error while building ps...so it seems to be a mac specific bug.

For thoses who wishe to try it, have a look on the very good \"Building PS on the Mac\" thread from JeroMyia on Development Deliberation section (sorry I don\'t know how to link to another thread from here....) and the server site for the CVS sources.

http://laanx.fragnetics.com/gentoo.php

It\'s long and hard, but definitly a good way to learn how to use the terminal and unix stuff ! (I was able to do it, so anyone should)

>ERROR: csInitializer::SetupConfigManager failed!
>Is your CRYSTAL environment variable set?
>logout

I got that too, i have to retype export CRYSTAL={$PATH} (same for CEL and CSCONFPATH) each time i close the terminal

Good luck to all

so what do we do now?

building ps from cvs on mac....
« Reply #141 on: January 26, 2005, 03:19:19 pm »
...i believe the link you seek on how to build from source code is
http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=12802&boardid=23&styleid=3&sid=fe8014111bb76489a067ed4d8c187f30&page=1#4
...unfortunately (as you will note from my posts on this thread) I cant really make much sense of what jeromya was saying - anyone who can shed some light on the matter is a legend...

hmmm... perhaps I should put up an in game incentive for whomever can write a total terminal-newb friendly breakdown?

I hate to be the mongrel yelling, but have you read this thread at all? As stated more than one time on each and every page (except this one) the newest Mac version is 0.3.005, while the newest PC/Linux version is 0.3.006, so you can download the latest mac version until your nose is blue and still get the error message. Or you can read more on this board for a HOWTO on downloading and compiling a semi-working CVS version...

If I had more time on my hands (ie not working full time and taking three university courses) I could have pitched in with the porting, but as it is there is only one mac developer here. Perhaps Someone should go over to the MacTech website and post a note about the problems and perhaps lure a cohort of Applegeek developers to Planeshift? ;)

And a planeshift username is generated when you create a new user. You log inn with an email address, get an email in return, just like you did when registering for this webboard, and create a new player when the email/password pair is verified by replying to that email.

LOL!

A telling remark :)

I think it\'s time to give this project some more visibility in the Mac community, especially among the developers.

I will try to involve some friends  ...

Just to inform  you....I\'m an \"official Apple Developer\"...get all the goodies cheaply! In any case, I can not seem to get planeshift to work. I downloaded the game, moved the indicated file to \"lib\" and nothing happened. I am also on version 0.1.

newest Mac version is 0.3.005,

The updater does not work, downloads the registry, but that is it. I have read from earlier posts that I shouldn\'t use the updater due to problems it may cause in future.

Developers of planeshift - are you working on an updated version to be released on your web-site? If not, is there a possibility that you could release a help guide for all of us who can not get the game to work?

because PlaneShift_CBV0.3.005_mac.dmg  is the old one , later and good luck

right so then . . . ?
« Reply #149 on: January 28, 2005, 03:59:49 pm »
So its my understanding that no one with a Mac can use the current version of planeshift because its the wrong version (3.005 instead of 3.006). So then even if I went into all the source code instructions that have been left so generously on this thread, and did as directed, I would still not be able to run the game?
If I do have to wait, I would assume that the major bug that have been discussing here will be fixed in the new version 3.006 and therefore I will not need the source code instructions?
And if I do need to put the effort into the source code instructions, is there any chance someone might be able to spend some time explaining a little more clearly what exactly needs to be done?
Last thing; I am not even sure I am capable of running it at all, I just have a crappy little iBook.
