I\'d like to second (or is it third, fourth? :P ) the kudos to dfryer. He\'s doing a great job and we should all appreciate his work.

As for what to do now, just sit tight and wait for an updated version. dfryer\'s very quick about bug fixes, so I expect it shouldn\'t be too long.

i mentioned to some mac developers that i know about planeshift and asked them to see if there was anything they could help out with. i hope they can. by the way dryfer, at risk of sounding to pushy do you think you could post an estimated date that the new version will be up and running. thanks.

i Picked up Chaos\'s java updater (which works fantastically. Thanks Chaos!)

However, the new vfs.cfg file apparently is the cause for a new problem:

People who are waiting are doing the \"right thing\" - I\'ve now recompiled with hopefully working code and uploaded to an internal server; hopefully it will be deployed to the updater shortly.  Once it is available, you should be able to run the updater (or the java updater, perhaps) from the command line and download the new psclient.app and updater.app.

These should not require any messing around with libcal3d.   The vfs.cfg file may still be broken;  I have a link posted further back in the thread so that you can compare yours against a version that I believe works.  If they\'re different you should be able to copy & paste using any text editor.

Spoon: Not sure what the problem with your vfs.cfg is in particular, although I know that the version currently on the updater server won\'t work correctly.  Examine it with a text editor and compare it to the file I\'ve linked to somewhere above, if you can see any major discrepancy then try to fix it.

The objective is that at the end of a few months, we\'ll have a stable, working mac version that doesn\'t get left in the dust, because by then we\'ll have both a knowledgeable community and a fairly automatic way of building the package and deploying it.  It\'s already a Lot Better than it used to be, so hang in there!

Thanks,
Daniel

Running version CBV0.3.0006 on MAC OSX
« Reply #199 on: February 03, 2005, 10:31:44 am »
I have tried following the instructions on copying the file from Resources folder to usr/local/lib, but it still does not work. What may be the problem?

The previous version I downloaded and installed worked after copying the file, but since it did not work after some changes at the server I removed all the files... Is that what is causing the problem... I do not see how, but I am no expert.

Please help

Hi guys
I\'ve read through this board and I must confess to being somewhat confused.
Could I possibly ask one of you who understands to type up a very quick sort of newbie walkthrough as to what needs to be done to get Planeshift up and running in OS X?
Mine keeps crashing, for one or another of the reasons mentionned above (which varies whenever i try to take any of the steps recommended in here).
Quicker question (that may also demonstrate where I\'m coming from on the computer knowledge front) how do you run the updater from the command line? What does \"running from the command line\" mean in fact? Is it something to do with the Terminal? I\'ve always been afraid of the Terminal... just the name is enough to send shivers down spines... why not just call it \'cancer\' or something?

I\'ve tried running it from the updater file in updater.app/contents/macos but that doesn\'t work either (the \"is your crystal environement set?\" error).

Any help would be much appreciated. It\'d be great to see what the game is like.

Cheers.
Adam

Usually we do just call it cancer, but then people start saying silly things like \"My colon has come down with a terrible command line.\"

Anyway, to get it up and running right now is not an easy thing.  In fact, it hasn\'t yet worked for me.  To be honest, you\'re best off waiting a few more days.  There are rumours that\'s all it will take

Next, to run the client from the command line (which you should not bother doing right now, to be clear)  open up a Terminal then type

cd /Applications/PlaneShift\\ 3D/
(this takes you into the Planeshift directory if you put it under Applications)

./psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient

(the . in the beginning is the \"run\" command and the rest is the name of the actual executable.)

for the updater it\'s

./updater.app/Contents/MacOS/updater

New Update
« Reply #202 on: February 03, 2005, 05:13:54 pm »
There is now a new update available.  This will work until they change the server version (again) in the next 24 hours or so, so if someone can test and report before then, that would be great!

Thanks,
daniel

In your case what has happened is that during a previous run of the updater it downloaded a bad & hosed updater.. you can try giving Cha0s\'s java updater a try, perhaps?  Redownloading everything may get you a working updater, I can\'t remember what state it\'s in.

Testing Alt Java app (Cha0s)
« Reply #206 on: February 03, 2005, 06:17:48 pm »
Testing as I type here.  Its downloading all the art, everything...I think.

This is normal from what I\'ve gathered from an earlier post.  What hasn\'t happened yet is an error during the update, which was also mentioned in the same post.  I\'m not running the pre-release of Tigger.

Thems a lot of .zip files.

Finish downloading .zips files plus with the ChaOs updater.  I didn\'t get any errors, just a bunch of .zip files.

When I try running from terminal now I get a Permission Denied error.

I don\'t have time now to go back and do anything else.  I\'ll check back here when I\'m not too busy again, probably a few hours.

\"When I try running from terminal now I get a Permission Denied error.\"

I fixed that using a utility called BatChmod. Changed the permissions.

Now i get a brand new type of error msg:
