Your "Deleted Posts" Count- Explained
« on: January 07, 2005, 05:16:52 pm »
Hiya,

All too often people come to be asking why they have a deleted post. Most of the time, I can\'t answer. I don\'t look at who I\'m deleting from, and I don\'t keep a log of every one of the thousands I delete each week- I don\'t need to.

Here I will list the primary meanings of the deleted post count, and why nobody should feel bad if they start getting ticks to it. You shouldn\'t take much notice of it at all.

Firstly, some definitions you need to know:

1. Spam. This means \"Stupid Pointless Annoying Messages\". Spam can be categorised in many different ways, from using all CAPS in a post, to posting a bunch of random letters for seemingly no reason. Spam is also anything specifically unwanted in a thread- so if people don\'t want a discussion in their Guild thread, and a couple of other members come along and start a discussion there, that is classed as Spamming.

2. OT. OT stands for Off-Topic. These are posts that completely disregard the point of the thread they appear in, ignoring it and choosing to talk about something unrelated. OT is also a form of Spam.

3. Flame. Flaming is arguing or insulting another member/members of the forum. Flames are generally the bad stuff- posts that intend to cause harm, rather than discuss.

Common misconceptions include:

\"But if I get a high deleted count the admins are gonna ban me!\"

\"Great, now everyone will think I\'m some big stupid spammer...\"

\"Have I done something wrong? Have I mispleased the gods? Woe is me for I have been tainted with the blood of the innocent!! No longer can I hold my head up high and show my love for this perfect world!!\"

It is also a misconception that people think deleting a thread will affect their deleted posts count. Posts inside deleted threads will not count.

The real meanings to the Deleted Posts count are as follows:

1. The count is a running tally of how many of your posts have been removed for any reason. It is nothing more.

2. Having a high count will not get you banned- it is not called \"spam count\", it is called \"deleted posts count\".

3. Posts are deleted for many reasons. Spam is indeed the main one. Off-topicness. Replying to people who made a spam/OT post. Comments saying \"I think a mod should delete this\". Flames/insults. Posts mistakenly placed in the wrong thread. Posts that are edited by the poster to say \"please delete me\" for whatever reason. Three-words-or-less posts. Posts simply saying \"I agree with .\"

And let\'s not go forgetting I\'m not the only Moderator here, hmm? :) I don\'t personally remember deleted posts, yes. BUT another Moderator might well do. You may feel free to PM me or any other Mod at any time to ask if we recall how your post was deleted. You may get lucky, but don\'t feel bad if not. As long as you act responsibly, maturely, and do not spam, there is no way you are doing something horribly wrong.

Thank you for reading.
