Deleting Names?
« on: March 16, 2005, 05:08:03 am »
I have a couple charactors I dont want to use, but I see no option to delete those charactors, and free up those spots.

Is there a way for me to delete a charactor I have?

Have you asked a GM to delete you?

The devs at this point do not want people to be deleting chars or else they would have provided an option.  You could either beg a dev or start a new account if this one is full.

Why would the devs not want someone to delete a charactor, let alone put an option in for someone to use?!

If anything, it would HELP the game\'s server lighten the load, by eliminating unused charactors that are just piling up in the database.

One character takes 1 DB slot (and 1 for items and 1 for spells and so on).

1 slot is fragments of a kilobyte

Space is cheep

True, but its pretty standard to have a \"Delete charactor\" button for users to use if they decide they dont want that charactor anymore.

If a charactor only takes up 3 slots at most in the database, thats 3 queries that is run to delete the charactor when the button is pressed. Disgustingly easy to add to the game.

Admin-level GMs can delete characters. You cannot. We don\'t want people to suddenly disappear for no good reason- such a thing can totally ruin RP.

If they wanted us to be able to delete our characters at this moment, then they would have made it possible.

Edit: Upps, Moogie beat me :P

Characters take up multiple slots in multiple tables. :)

I think that, considering that this is an alpha, it is a bit pointless to have a delete option.
At this point of the developing, when there is the goal of reaching a db-wipe, it doesn\'t have so much sense.

I guess in the future they will provide something, because it will become a bit hard to listen to everybody that wants to have for some reason a character deleted.

And, I don\'t think it is \"RPG problem\", considering that the death is followed by resurrection, there could be death followed by.. delete of the character.
