player government/thief skills/other stuff
« on: April 21, 2005, 08:11:39 pm »
Okay my idea is pretty big.  Once this happens, this game will be awesome.  It could also happen in the near future (like next release or one after).

Key ideas needed to be implemented:
1) thief/assasin skills (pickpocket, backstab, hide in shadows, etc.)
2) jobs.  especially a \'city guard\' type job.   There should also be a limit to this kind of job so everyone can\'t be in it making thieving/being an assasin impossible. (but many people could still be)
3) a system where if you were pickpocketed or backstabbed AND survived the entire encounter (including any fighting resulting from the backstabbing/pickpocketing) a window would appear asking you if you would like to report this to the guards.  After a person has been reported like 3-5 times, they would be subjected to the \'guards\' attacking them at free will or by other citizens.

EXAMPLE:
Someone is a thief.  He can pickpocket/backstab anyone he wishes, but can\'t do this to the same person within a certain amount of time.  If they fail or are noticed by that person when pickpocketing, the \"victim\" can react by fighting.  If being backstabbed and survive, a person can also fight back.     After they dispatched the thief, they can send an alert out and inform the \"Guards of Yiliakum\"or something like that (A job players can become).  Then, once reported a few times (like 3-5), a guard can send out a wanted add or something so that everyone of those Guards can freely attack the thief/assassin without needing to challenge them.  (Also, if it might be a better idea, --i couldn\'t decide--they could send out a public want add for the thief/assasin so Anybody can freely attack them if they were reported a lot of times)  The thief/assasin on the other hand would have challenge them to attack them, unless the thief/assasin was attacked first.  This would make it so that there is a major down side to becoming a thief and most people wouldn\'t want to be it.

I think this is a great idea.  Its also starts a player run government a little bit.

What do you guys think? If you don\'t like it, submit changes, but keep them reasonable.

If Moogie the great is reading this, when would something like this become possible?

why not make it a bounty then? if a player killed the guy they would get a certain amount of tria, depending on how wanted the killer/thief is

thats a good idea.  the more that thief stole/assasin killed, the higher the bounty.  But only if he was reported a bunch of times.

Sounds like the foundation of a good idea. I think it might need a few changes with the whole backstabbing and pickpocketing other people part, but I\'m not going to try, I would probably end up messing up your good idea.

I also forgot to mention 1 thing:

There should be a skill people can train in called \"awareness\".  This would make them notice thieves/assasins trying to pickpocket them or assasinate them more often, and hence make these skills more difficult.

Thief and Assasin skills should be worked on next. They are the next big thing to come out

I don\'t think thieving and assassination are that important. I would wish for more things like emotes and implementing more of the skills that are on the list, like climbing.

Also, the big problem with thieving is that there is no bank or other safe place yet. Therefore, players basically have no choice other than to carry their entire belongings with them all the time, making all of it subject to thieving, while realistically they would hide it in some safe place until needed, like a bank.

So I think the amount of tieving should be limited to at most a small percentage of the actual belongings of the char, and also only to money, and possibly really small items. *remembers Baldur\'s Gate where it was possible to steal Drizzt\'s swords off his hands* No, no pickpocketing swords and shields... :D

You\'re looking at long-term future stuff with a complicated system such as this.
