I prefer Azureus for my torrenting needs, simply because it keeps all torrents in a single window, rather than a bunch of download windows. I don\'t know if BitComet does this or not. The only clients I know of that use one window are ABC and Azureus...
But that\'s just my opinion.
Anyway, yeah. The .torrent file is only something like a text file with information regarding the filesize, name, address of tracker, some ECC (error checking code) etc. BitTorrent allows you to pause a download, close a download window entirely and restart it, and if you have a server you can even host your own torrents.

To clear up any confusion about the BitTorrent method of downloading things,
take a look here, they have a graphical representation of how it works.
