Entering the names of your parents does not affect anything, but every other choice you make affects your stats in some form or another. These effects are not written out anyone on the main site (or forums) that I am aware of, though several people have figured it out and made charts. With enough experimentation (and many clicks of the back/previous button) one can find the traits and stats he or she will like.
