School's Out!
« on: June 28, 2005, 10:37:25 pm »
Ok, I realize the Devs may be well aware of this, but here in North America all the school kids are now on summer break.  And a lot of them have computers and a limited budget.  Hence, Planeshift is becoming very crowded, and if I thought there weren\'t enough mobs before... look around now.. there certainly aren\'t.

I really hope that the code in it\'s current state can handle more mobs on each map.  And more loot on the poor mobs running around.  I have explored high and low, and the existing world, small as it is, is largely empty.  So, there is plenty of room for more mobs ;)

I see no problem, except people whining for monsters because they want to earn more tria. I will say again. Don\'t go to forums to earn trias, look for a way to earn them in game.
If there is not enough animals, this mean there is too many hunters which means some of them should look for alternative source of income if hunting is too hard for them, or it dont bring big enough profit.
How can you expect more monsters if there just isn\'t more?
And this is called competition, many people are missing this point, after they have got used to peacefull coexisting where no suprises are happening.

Think and try to find way out from a problem same as you do it everyday, where is no dev who will change your life.

Said before? Well that there are to few monsters perhaps, but I  think it can be said it is now even more urgent then before and face it. People normally don\'t read the posts that already have 50 replies.

As to competition. That is easy to say but last time I walked into the arena in the weak tefu room do you know how many tefu\'s there were? 1. yes not 3 not 2 but only 1. Now with my main character I have no problem it\'s leveled enough to find other ways to get money but with my weaker one only rats remain and in the sewers I only found two near the entrance and ofcourse these were swamped with players aswell.

Now ofcourse this isn\'t always so, but one can\'t just say \"don\'t complain\" when for the newer players the numbers more then double in players and the number of things to hunt drop dramaticly aswell.

I myself did not feel the need to make a post but I do think it is a more then justified feeling spoken here.

Maybe mobslaying isn\'t the best way to earn money. And if you\'re looking for points, then kill a few of the better mobs and you\'ll have enough of those to last you at least a dozen lifetimes. This problem is only as big as some people blow it up to be. If you can\'t find a free spot, then sit down and wait for people to leave, or take it over by force/cleverness/whatever. Tell the people their moms are sick and they need to log off and take care of her right away, or just start killing anything that moves. Just don\'t be an ass while doing it. That\'ll just get you into trouble with the massive crowd of GMs that seem to be appearing everywhere.

The only way to get past a problem is to outsmart it. :)

I see a few solutions:

Add another large map, perhaps an elven village.  The architecture could be organic.  Perhaps a Kran settlement, with rock based architecture.  Perhaps wild cats, as opposed to the more civil city cats in oja.

More importantly though, we need a way for people to spawn in places other than the first city!

The problem is not the number of logged in users. There have been more than twice as many before.
The problem is that the current server code has issues.

1) The spawn engine is buggy. Due to this, a lot of spawns don\'t work or cease to work after some time.
2) The NPC AI is buggy as well. Due to this, MOBs go astray and get lost somewhere in the map.

Due to these reasons, there are most of the time almost no MOBs to camp, especially not lower level ones.

Therefore, it\'s simply one of the many things that don\'t work well right now. The devs certainly are aware of it, and maybe it\'s fixed in the next update.

To add to the problem, the quest system doesn\'t work, so there is indeed virtually no source of income, especially since the accessibility to the platinum mines has been severely reduced.

However, there is no way any thread like this will make a difference.

It seems as if the devs were working on several problems at the same time and are waiting for the next major update to include all fixes at once.

Why can\'t they just focus on one problem at a time and give us updates asap?
Are the problems so much dependent on one another, that is it simply impossible to solve one problem for it\'s own?
Or does it indeed take that much time to solve even one of the problems?

I don\'t really get the point of including several fixes at once - if new problems should occur, it will be harder to find out which of the \"fixes\" caused it.
Characters:
- Shalieso Abugora, male Xacha
- Tarr Rurrokk, Kran

I\'ve seen several replies to my concern that there aren\'t anough loot dropping monsters.  It seems that several people think there\'s a better way to make money.  I wonder if such people play on another server with a different code-build.

On the public server (fragnetics) the only altnerative is mining which is a very low income yield on it\'s own.  Quests have been disabled since I started this release.  My e-mail has changed since the crystal hunt so I cannot get the crystals transferred (from what I\'ve read).  And, without trade-skill books we cannot process our mined ore and increase the profits from it.

So, I am really curious why people suggest that something is wrong with my approach.

I mean, it\'s even lower-yield to stand around a mob in a crowd (I\'ve seen up to 6 around a thug or rogue that drops swords), and alternate loot on it.  You\'d be better off killing rats or tefusangs constantly.

And, please don\'t interpret this as a attempt to make money on the forums, that is just a mean-spirited interpretation of what I am trying to do here.

We decided to release updates periodically instead of \'as soon as there\'s something done\'. It helps us reduce the amount of bugs in the game, as well as providing plenty of content every update. Obviously critical bugs would be patched asap, but there shouldn\'t be any critical bugs in the game :)

As for loot and mobs... we are aware that there\'s room for huge improvement :)

As Seytra said, it\'s fixed in cvs - there should be some 50 rats in the world now afaik.  8o

And updating everytime something is fixed would just be too much work for little outcome. Well, you can have an always updated client, just build from source. :P
