Game doesn't open
« on: July 23, 2005, 03:54:57 am »
I can run the game, but no window pops up.  It shows it as running when I look at the task manager, but of course I don\'t see it on the taskbar or as a window.  Same thing happens with the updater.  My video card is a 9200 radeon.  Anyone else having a problem like this or know a solution?

Hi,

I am a bit confused, but I ll try to understand which is your problem.

Basically, you don\'t see the window of the game, but the process is running somewhere.
Have you tried to do ALT+TAB for moving between the programs you might have on?

If something happened with the updater, did you restart the updater ? Was the update unsuccessfull also this time?
How do you know something happened during the update?

The only way I can update is if I run cmd and then cd into the planeshift directory and run the updater that way.  Otherwise it does the invisible task thing, where it has no visible window on task on the bar.  It can only be seen as running if I check the task manager.

Basically the same thing happens when I run the client.  It will open a command window briefly then that closes, and no more windows come up.  It doesn\'t go to fullscreen or anything.  The task can only been seen on the task manager, just like with the updater.  Both tasks still use RAM and CPU, but just don\'t open fully.

Btw, I did let the updater finish updating, but the client still doesn\'t open.  Neither does the updater, unless I run it through cmd.

Perhaps your system doesn\'t reach the minimum requirements.

Quoting Planeshift mainpage:

Minimum Requirements:

    * Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP, Mac OS X 10.2.6, Linux, FreeBSD or Solaris
    * GeForce 2 or higher 3D graphics card
    * 1 Ghz CPU
    * 512 MB RAM
    * 1 GB free disk space
    * 56k modem Internet connection

Recommended Requirements:

    * Windows XP, Mac OS X 10.2.6, Linux or FreeBSD
    * GeForce 4 or higher 3D graphics card
    * 2 Ghz CPU
    * 1 GB RAM
    * 1 GB free disk space
    * Broadband Internet connection

I\'m not used to ATI videocards, but, I think i\'ve read in other posts people complaining about not fully supporting opengl, and downloading some moded drivers that worked best for them. Try to search for that in this forums, if you think your system should be capable to launch the game.
Are there any MoonSeekers left?

Yep, that was me.  Specifically, it was on the subject of the mobile version of the card, but I think it was the official drivers in general that were having the problems.  Go to Omega Drivers to get the third-party drivers I\'ve been recommending.  This ~sounds~ like it might be a drivers issue, so it\'s worth a shot.
