Using screenshots
« on: July 30, 2005, 05:00:23 am »
I\'m considering creating a simple website to display screenshots and info I gather during my time playing Planeshift.

What can and can\'t I use in order to avoid any copyright problems?

e.g. If I can\'t use screenshots, could I use stylized graphics and textual descriptions? Would I be permitted to use NPC names etc?

Thanks for any info.

If all your doing is taking screenshots and not going in and stealing any paticular textures or skins, then you\'ll be fine so long as you give credit and identitify the game as Planeshift.

Here is a link to the license.  The main thing that makes Planeshift different from other GPLed software is the way its worded so that players can\'t branch off from the main project.  Other than that you\'re free to use any screenshots and content like that so long as you don\'t claim it as your own work or try to compete with Planeshift or anything like that.  If it\'s a fan page you\'re welcome to do what you wish.

RP Name: Vegoz
(pronounced \"vee-goes\" and although it ends in a z, it is a very soft z, to where it is bascially an s sound.)

That\'s pretty much it, aye. However, please be sure not to make publicly available solutions for quest, maps, etc., because these things are supposed to be attainable only by ingame means. That is, you can give them out to fellow players, guildmates and such when you have RP reason to do so. AFAIK, even posting them on guild internal sites is acceptable. However, anonymous access is not acceptable. If you bear that in mind you should be fine. :)
