As of now, which has become my usual browsing time, Rita is ranked at 5 with winds at 175Mph. You and all those in the area are difinatly in my thoughts.
If you want to keep up to date and are out of the usual weather loop you  can go here and update at will.

The visible map is nice to look at...in a sick sort of way.

Hey everyone. Just droping in a report. I left my city and evacuated to my mom in law in northwest luisiana. Well the dang storm followed me. We had 80 mph wind which wasnt so bad but we also had many tornados. Several people around where I was staying including the same street, they lost everything. A tree in the driveway of the house I was in fell on the house nextdoor. Could have went either way, I am just glad no one was in that house at the time. Trying to go to the store the next day was an adventure of its own. I waited in line for an hour outside the store as police monitored everyone who came in and out. No ice no electricity no water trees all over the roads and floods everywhere. If I had stayed home everything would have been fine. My house had one tree fall and saw no rain just wind.

That does it for this report. Hopefully this is the worst hurricane season we see for a long time but I would not count on that. Good luck to everyone affected, I feel extremly lucky to still have my home and my kids.

I had to evacuate as well, thisis my first day of internet since i\'ve returned. I\'m in northwest houston so i\'d imagine i\'m of the first group of returners, and man.. you will not beleive the horrows of the highways... we had a motor home so we were more lucky than most, additionally, we had our own house out of town :\\ butthere were thousands of people who were jsu stranded in place.. we stayed at a wal-mart parking lot, which reminded me of the movie Independance day, when everyone stayed at area 51; there were literally hundreds of people there, most sleeping in their cars, many had blankets out on the grass b/c of the heat(and it was damn hot)

anyways I\'m back, safe and sound, good luck to those who have yet to return.

my how times have changed.....

Oh I can vouche for the highway horror you speak of. We ran out of gas just north of clevland. There were probly 50 vehicles standed on a 20 mile strech from clevland to lufkin. We stayed with our cars for hours and got lucky there was a guy going around selling gas. True it was $25.00 for 5 gallons but well worth it. I just feel bad for the people who lost there homes there because of flooding from the dams.
