Predefined paths -- Warlock
« on: September 24, 2005, 07:19:32 am »
Well, I am not a newbie, but what I discovered may interest newbies. I have often wondered if there is some advantage to doing  a predefined path for a warlock.
So I picked the race, Enkidukai and compared a male and female warlock and a male rogue using the predefined paths.    The stats turned out to be identical for all three and just happened to be identical to the basic stats for the Enkidukai race.  There was absolutely no gain for a player who wanted to play that race to follow the predefined path for either of those that I selected to upload.  Fortunately I could delete those characters in this version.  The only value i can see is the speed of forming a character.  Otherwise I can create a character the long way that will have better stats and better training levels to begin with.

Oh, I did a search on \"predefined path warlock\" and found one theme mostly from 2003 and 2004.

Pre defined paths dont currently set up your stats.

I doin\'t personally know why, perhaps its just not linked in ready yet, but once it is it wioll balance you out with average stats for what your going to be (you being what you choose and sticking to it)

it is quicker then creating your own full path, but nowhere near as fun, its unfortunate you cannot create a character the longer way, but do not fret, these things will be fixed :)

Yes currently the paths give you a few skill points... nowheres near what you\'d get if you took the long way.  And also the stats are nto set, I htink they are supposed to, so I might take a look into that... well, atleast before the next wipe :)
A warlock has a few different meanings, but in this case is a fighting mage.

Well, I can do it the long way and I did create a character whose stats could be used as a warlock.   And I tried to balance weapon and magic in my choices.
The race is Enkidukai, a male, basic is Str 55, Agil 85, End 50, Int 40, will 70, char 50
What I got are Str 63, Agil 82 (I thought I would do better), End 55, Int 32, Will 84, char 52.   hp 91, Mana 22, Fatigue 310.
Sword 5, knives & daggers 4, light armor 2, Med. armor 4, Crystal way 7,
Azure way 2, Blue way 2, Herbal 6, Repair weapons 2, Cooking 3.

The normal stats starting for the warlock was sword 1, Light armor 1, blue way 1, set traps 1, Body development 1.

Grmpf... nice to know about that. How about adding that piece of information to the guide?

Guess I\'ll have to create my third character now to get rid of the bad stats I got with the warlock path :( Luckily my current character at least has money and weapons for the new one.

there arent predifined paths and there shouldnt be... it should be fully customizable... not just a lazy way of choosing...

if you click \'paths\' near the bottom it takes you to a window with set paths rage :)

and maybe some people dont care for stats or the choices they have (rarity as it is)

they just want to get ingame and experience it, so they choose a set path :)

I met a character in game playing an Enkidukai.   I chatted with him and while he
was killing rats with fists, asked if he would like to try a sword and then 2 swords.
I then inquired about his stats str and agil.   he said he had followed a char development that the server gave him.   He Had for str 55 and agil 85.
I said that I bet I know what your others stats were:  end 50, int 40, Will 70 and char 50.    He asked how did I know that.    I said that I had studied char development and that the stats for paths where obviously just the basic stats given a race.   He was playing a knight.   It just shows that paths have little value.
I then commented about one char I had developed having 80 str at the beginning for an Enkidukai.     I suggested that since he was a first day beginner that he return his 2 swords to me, which he did and he offered some trias too.  Not as much trias as he claimed he had though.    I informed him the the forums and said he could get to them from:  http://www.planeshift.ir    He was not aware of their existance.   He did leave the game but did not appear again to reclaim the swords I had originally offered him.     I also was  playing an Enkidukai at the time.

Making my own character, I can make a water-elf with 120 endurance, 85 agility, and 80 strength.  Alternatively, I could start off with level 19 in crystal way, almost as high in dark way, or level 5 light armour with some sword skill to boot.

Trust me, it\'s better to make your own custom character.

Nothrir Zanz, they\'re called Nolthrir :P

Anyway by creating your own character history you can get quite a headstart indeed. One of my characters started out with 120 strength, 100 endurance and 5 sword skill. Another one, a miner can start out with 10 in mining, something which I still believe is practically impossible to get when training the normal way. Training mining requires gigantic ammounts of PP\'s and trias.

Level 50 light armour cost me about 13,000 tria or so.... I don\'t even think about progression points, last time I played I had over 12 thousand of them unused.

Do Nolthrir have body hair?  If not, does that make us the metrosexuals of Planeshift?

Uh most elves usually don\'t even have facial hair so I doubt they have body hair. Seeing that these are water creatures chances are even less likely ... We are metrosexual! *faints dramatically*

Hehe..

On the other hand, you can really screw over your character in the long way if you don\'t know how it works.. My freind has a whole bunch of levels in painting and music :P

Of late, my characters have run into several players who obviously followed a predefined path.
Also I created on character with a predefined path to confirm that the stats are still the same for
an Enkidukai.   The only difference is that the skills are different between the type of character -- warlock, rogue, etc.
So, here it is 2007 and no change.
