wget -c http://xrl.us/pslinux fixed it

Strange that, I tried to download it twice from the normal link, but both times it stopped at 178MB. The above command, however, appears to be working and it is busy again. Hope to be online soon...

Xordan, you still include Cg librararies, wich may cause dramatic fps drop when looking through portals (see example). I don't know how many users suffer from this, but why don't You update Cg toolkit to latest stable version ?

Ok, I'll update. Thanks. 1.4.1 is supposed to be compatible with things built with 1.4 so I'll just update the libs.

Edit: Ok, once the updater is published, just run fixlibs.sh to get the new libs.

You can try the one from the cvs:
http://planeshift.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/planeshift/planeshift/docs/compiling.html

Or you can look for the Ubuntu build guide which you find here:
http://vaalnor.mine.nu/cvs.htm

It's been a while since i played PS last time.

So i couldnt login to play today - old version :-)

Got the new .bin from Forum link.
(None of the torrents or .bin links from Download Page worked)

Installed .16 (64bit) over old .15b (64bit), run updater (updating binary psc),
run pssetup and psclient.

Tadaa! It works!

Once again, good work Xordan.
And Thanks to all PS-Devs.

i have the exact same error as Fellon and steveit.

installer gets through asking all questions and is JUST about to install and it crashes, i also noticed that when i cancel haflway through the questions it says "Uninstalling Planeshift" when it never actually started and does the same crash thing.

any ideas? i really want to play this game...

Cheers.

Just wanted to say that I appreciate you providing a graphical installer.  Makes things much easier and faster and just all around more efficient.  I like the command line, but clicking "I Agree" and "Next" instead of "spacebar spacebar spacebar, y, ./configure" is a nice change.  Thanks, and as far as stability, I haven't had any issues with the installer at all.  Kudos.

When I use the installer, I got very annoying graphic bugs:
- transparent characters / items
- very confused textures (you can't tell whet items are in your inventory, you have to point the mouse on it until the desc. appears)
- labels (names above the chars) are cut off at the lower-left corner)

This happens at both computers I want to play Planeshift on:
PC:
- Linux 2.6.17-beyond-git2 PREEMPT i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
- Gentoo Linux unstable (default-linux/x86/2006.1/desktop, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.5-r0)
- ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB - AGP (using the 3D-accelerated) driver shipped with xorg-x11-7.1 / xorg-server-1.1.1-r3 / mesa-6.5.1-r4)

Laptop:
- Linux 2.6.17-beyond4 PREEMPT i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.70GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
- Gentoo Linux unstable (default-linux/x86/2006.0, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.5-r0)
- ATI Radeon Mobility M7 LW (AGP) (using the 3D-accelerated) driver shipped with xorg-x11-7.1 / xorg-server-1.1.1-r3 / mesa-6.5.1-r4)

When I build PlaneShift from source (only tried on my desktop), the graphics are perfect. (There's still some problem with sound, though)

This is yet only feedback, I'll try to dig into the problem to find out a bit about it.
BTW: Is there a way to display my current FPS? Would be nice if I could compare binary/selfbuilt

You can try the one from the cvs:
http://planeshift.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/planeshift/planeshift/docs/compiling.html

Or you can look for the Ubuntu build guide which you find here:
http://vaalnor.mine.nu/cvs.htm

I don't maintain that build guide anymore - I moved them all to my central docs site: http://vaalnor.mine.nu/psdoc

Hello,

I'ven been trying to install PS on my laptop, but it keeps failing at the same point.

Type: Bug

Description: I downloaded the 3.0.18 bin file from the torrent and several of the mirrors. Then I chmodded the file to be executable and try to run it, with or without sh or sudo starting the command and I get the same error immediately:

OK, after 3 days of trying it finally works when I try to report the error...  \\o// It was something like: unexpected "(".
I did install a library that enabled 32-bits Boinc units to be run on my system, perhaps that had something to do with it.

Your system specs: AMD64 Turion, Ubuntu/Gnome, kernel 2.6.17-11-generic, 1024 MB RAM, ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 (128 MB)

Hmm. I don't need any help anymore, but something apparently was wrong that rebooting in the morning fixed. Ah well, forget it.

Thanks for a great game!

[repost ...done it in the wrong place]

Greetings,
i was trying to install PS 018 on an Ubuntu 6.06 LTS using the installer but i've had problems:
the installer starts normally and asks me everything like usual but when it wants to start the 'real' installation (file copy) the process exits and creates a dumpfile.

I've used no system wide, as WM gnome, no menu icons, no desktop shortcuts, no manual permissions (tried to use it once but same problem).
I've tried to run it with sudo and to create the PlaneShift dir manually but nothing changed. It's a known issue? How can i fix it?

Thanks.

Type: Bug

Description: The installer always crashes very early in the process. I start it, select my language, accept the license and then then it stops with the message (in the terminal): "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" That's it. Any help would be appreciated

System Specs: I'm using Kubuntu 7.04 with a pretty stock Dell Inspiron e1505. it has an Intel Core Duo T2300, 1GB of RAM, an Nvidia Geforce Go 7300 with the latest drivers. If there are any other specs you need, please let me know.

@ reldruh & esserfin

Try downloading this installer:

http://vaalnor.mine.nu/Downloads/PlaneShift%20Crystal%20Blue-0.3.018-Linux-x86-Install

And let me know if it works for you.  It'll be a long download, I'm not the fastest server around since mines in my house... but still should work for you guys.  I like this installer package a bit better than bitrock only because its highly (completely) scriptable, and seems to work on a wider variety of software as its tlk/ck based.  Xordan care to investigate installjammer a bit? :D
