advisor points
« on: October 13, 2005, 06:22:10 pm »
just curious ...can I reccomend someone for advisor points if they were extremely patient and helpful in-game (and not on the help channel)
...because, if so, I would like to see Kyixi rewarded for taking the time to answer my questions politely (and not just swat my newbie booty into the countryside). I say this, in part, because I have a tendency to ramble and/or babble ...and putting up with me can be a handful at times.

...and a BIG thank you to all you guys who have been so understanding in-game!

at this point, STILL \"idiot in need of villiage\"

lol Drey ...already have, and effusively

...just seems to me that a player who is working as an advisor at least knows it is going to be expected of him ...whereas Kyixi took time away from his training to help me out (Kyixi ...I owe you an ale, at least)

Advisor points are awarded only if someone has the /advisor mode enabled and answers questions through the Help channel in-game. It\'s just how it works :) There are plenty of wonderful, helpful people in-game - but advisor points are (mainly) for people who would like to become future GMs.

In months past, advisor points were (nearly) the way to earn GM-ship. You got up to 500 points and became a GM... of course, that made for some issues like people thinking advisor points were just another stat to level ;)

Now we just take note of the times we see good (and bad, if any) deeds, put them in a complex formula from Xordan, and figure out whether someone\'s cool enough to be a GM :P

If I didn\'t think it would be abused, I would ask for a way for advisees to award points beyond the one per question if they think the advisor did an acceptional job.

Regardless of all that random stuff that has very little to do with the topic >.> it\'s good to see that helpful people live on ingame ^^

How do you become an advisor?

There is a section in the Player Guide with the commands.
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Read carefully ;) You have to type either /advisormode on, or /advisormode off. Typing /advisormode alone will just tell you your current state.
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

You do know that you should AT LEAST read the Player Guide before even thinking about useing Advisor Mode.

Please, i have seen Advisors who cause more issues by simply not answering the questions with thought or just give a 5 word answer.

Make sure you know the game Advisors  ;)

Point taken, Ecolem. But there is also this other side of the advisor role, which is not to be underestimated.
By turning advisormode \"on\", you as a newb have the opportunity to see the most common [and uncommon] questions and their answers, thus getting answers to questions you would probably ask the advisors yourself in a day or two. The point that people with half-decent knowledge of the subject should not apply PLing tactics to the advisor role still remains.
question: there\'s a system message saying \"your request to become an advisor has been GRANTED\". Now, I\'m pretty sure that noone really oversees the process at the moment. Are there plans for submission approval in the future? That could have big implications on the point I had stated above.

Well i guess its just a fancy way of saying \"Advisor mode on\"  :P

But they may be a time where Advisors get to common and in order to control it they might need to take a test to become an Advisor  ;)
