I thought that would be quite obvious, but heck...
Is it equally easy for you to recognise someone who stands next to you and someone who stands 100 meters away?
I think for a person without super-natural power it does pretty much differ.

\"Hey look! It\'s Drak!\"
\"What? How do you know? I can barely see him.\"

It is a natural way of letting you know whether your character recognises someone or not (and even how easy it is to do so).

Ehh... sure... Even though I can read stuff rom a distance most people can\'t.
Did you perchance miss the word \"equally\"?
You know you can still read someone\'s name from a bigger distance. Only that it\'s smaller... Just like face of whoever you look at.
So if you can\'t read label that is so far away, most likely you wouldn\'t be able to recognise face from such distance as well.

sure you can face, clothing style, fur pattern, body shape

right now we have to make do, but in the future all this is applicable and not one person will be alike.

i simply play that out now

Ok.  What do you propose to replace it with?

I did say \"disappear completely.\"
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

You keep digging your hole further and further..... though I disagree with your position, you choose to resort to ad hominem attacks, then you ignore Draklar\'s reasoning, and now another ad hominem attack... my oh my. :-D

Well, it seems I can\'t argue with your reasoning. :-D

Oh.  Then how will we identify one another through visual inspection?

Bah ;) Repeat: I said that the labels should disappear at a certain distance - which is realistic (depending on what distance this may be implemented at), since at a certain distance everyone\'s features blur. So instead of seeing a character with a scrunched up ribbon of green over his or her head, you\'d just see the distant character. I don\'t know, makes sense to me.. :)

I didn\'t mean the labels should be removed permanently.

I would say that this discussion is degenerating.

If we have to insult each other at least we should do it outside the forums.

Each one of us has most probably its own opinion about how a certain things should look like or how it is better for RPG reasons. The fact is, we can make wishes (in the wishlist) and wish that some developer will listen to our wishes and think: \"might be worthy a try to discuss it with the others\".

I understand that there are different point of views over an issue, but this forum thread has become a bit too much over the line for my taste, and I would recommend - since unfortunately I don\'t have any power to stop this - to stop it yourself :-)

Anyway, I have already expressed my opinion on the labels in a wishlist post a lot of months ago.

*makes an attempt to restore mature discussion*

I rather like the visible on mouse over option for labels. I\'ve been using it for a while now and it strikes me as far more realistic than the huge neon signs floating over everyone\'s head.

I like not seeing who who is until I get close enough and focus on them. Sure that way I\'ve probably passed by a couple friends or familiars without realizing it but those things happen in real life too.

One additional feature which I consider very important but nobody seemed to have mentioned yet is that items laying on the floor don\'t have that label over them that says \"Hey look I\'m laying here !\" This is something I never liked since it makes it impossible to hide objects and too easy to spot them. This is the main reason why I only show them on mouse-over, so I have to search for anything laying around instead of finding the so obvious big red neon label.

I feel items should have labels on mouse-over only, no matter what your preferences are set to. Player and NPC labels can be set as desired like they are right now.
