an idea of my own
« on: November 26, 2002, 11:44:14 pm »
Well since everybody has is deciding to make there own game, I guess I?m gonna release my own private workings,
Its not much compared to what your planning whitti but hell, I\'m doing it on my own so... its a text adventure for the ti 83 calculator written in ti-basic.
Well, anyway here\'s what I\'m either done with or worked on so far,

1. 2d plash screen with the crystal thingy

2. Working on the \"adventure\" system (as I call it)

3. Coming up with a script and little gimmicks that I?m sure some people on these forums will find funny.

The game is based on the wait or anticipation for ps. Rather than a mini game or pre-game. I hope that I can abstractly incorporate as part of in game play aspects of life that we experience as gamers waiting for an open source free pre-beta game. These are some of the aspects I?ve thought about:

Mirc chat - ???
Message board - like a post for points thing
Joining a guild - not really, but in game
Applying for the dev team - and being rejected
Development of a fan site - not really

I know this sounds big but since I?m no programming god I\'ve simple decided to work these things into the script and not really \"program\" anything.

Here is what I?ve worked on in the script/ adventure aspect of my game:

One day, while tired of console gaming you again decide to feed your pc gaming obsession. While surfing the net looking for a good, free game you stumble onto Planeshift, curious you look further. You see it?s in pre beta form. The screen shots and posts on the forum all seem good but no update to the main site occurs for months and you play other games while checking back. You play other games but none seem as promising as Planeshift. You continue checking back and begin to relish the little updates to the ps main site that the ps dev team sprinkles on the waiting fans. Your begin thinking of anyway you can help the P.S. team. So now your a regular on the forums and have started your own fan/guild site but still no game and your requests to join the Development team have been three times denied. You are now addicted and suffer from pre- beta syndrome. Let the quest for ps begin!

ok, ok, so its a little rusty and I haven\'t done any real programming on it yet. But I am working on it.
I\'m using the structure for the last game I wrote for my calculator called Pimp venture, a text game in witch you play the role of a pimp  outta work and looking for his ho*s\"

anyway, all contributions in the form of Quest ideas and or scripts for the quests are welcomed.

If you need help, I\'m a TI83-basic pro. I\'ve made games on it for almost 3 years now :) Stupid games, like 4-in-a-row and such, but still. I also designed some handy science programs for it. Long live the TI83!
<Worf> These are the moments when my ego gets put back on the ground. I use linux for quite some time, and am soon 2 years maintainer of a linux distribution. I started to think I would be good at it. But then I tried to get planeshift running.

I tried doing something with my calculator but somehow ended up screwing it up

SO i ended up taking my friends and i\'m not sure if he\'s noticed yet since he never uses it, but it\'s a lot better anyways...i\'ll probably end up selling it since these things are pretty expensive, i\'ll also have to take up running since he MIGHT be mad

oh well, thats life

where was I going with this?

Wow!  THere are other TI programmers out there!

If you want to make a tile map, a program called \"omnicalc\" will be very useful.  I\'m writing a graphical RPG called \"orodion\" with that...but barely got started.  Now on version 0.3 of the battle engine :)

ParaSite...could you perhaps make a string-tilemap converting program?  i.e. each letter codes for a particular tile, and using the string can make a map...having trouble with that.

And does anyone out there know assembly?

Ti programmers unit!
Kiern you should give ur friend his calc back. I\'m sure you don\'t have a clue to how it feels to have something very expensive stolen from you but I do. Its like having a finger riped of when something you worked for gets swiped. I\'m speaking from experience because I\'ve had both my first ti stolen (the one i bought) and my computer stolen, thats why I\'m forced to us my schools ti & comp.

My adventure system is really just a bunch of if then statements that coresponde to the story i write.
kinda like those choose your own ending books except on a calculator.
 :D

I was really sad when i lost pimp venture. You\' all know how hard it is to type into those little calculators

So what does this tell us about PvP Stealing/Thieving abilities in PS?  :-)

Venge, real life and make believe are two different things and though it hurt and pissed me off, there are those people that do those type of things

They may be two different things, but working hard for something expensive in a game world only to have it cruely and unfairly taken from you, gives you just the same feelings of being hurt and pissed off, even though you haven\'t lost anything tangible really. Ask anyone who\'s been a victim of \'make believe\' crime.

true, but once you step back and realize you\'ve not really lost anything then suddenly you realize its not that bad and work hard to exact revenge on X player

Hehe. I\'m working on a little project of my own in visual basic. It has nothing to do with Planeshift, but I thought I could share it with you anyway. If you happen to sympathise with George W. Bush than I seriously reccomend you skip over this post.

You control Billy Joe Armstrong of Greenday (You know the punkrockers who released Dookie. Haven\'t you heard of Dookie?! You poor guy) in 2005 to kill the president who has gone completely insane and has proclaimed a fascist regime. So you start clicking like mad on George (ehm...shooting him. I haven\'t figured out keyboard control yet) and taking blows yourself. Dubya doesn\'t actually have any weapons but can climb into machine gun posts and fire like hell at you. I\'ll be adding a few extra things like drumsticks (collect 2 and call upon Greenday\'s drummer Tre\' Cool to start banging on his head), guitar strings (collect 6 and launch a powerfull music attack) guitar tuners (tune your guitar for an even more powerfull music attack) joints (Collect 5 cannabis leaves, paper and a filter to make a joint. Give some sort of unspecified powerup) and beer bottles (To heal yourself).

Text Games, especially Online ones, are the greatest, It is much easier to put yourself into the game, and also lamers like you that are just looking for a game to cheat and scam in don\'t like text games so no one has to put up with you.
