there are clients for each, if that\'s what you\'re asking. i\'m not sure about the states for either mac or linux, as to if they are current or not. but i\'m sure someone will say shortly.

Hello there,

I use the Macintosh version of the client, which connects to the game just fine. There are however a few bugs that Mac users encounter (see the MacOS forums if you need to).

Theoretically, the game can run on any system.  You just need to download the source and compile it on your own.  ;)  Pre-compiled binaries exist for Windows, MAC, and Linux.  (see the MAC and Linux forums for more info)

Still don\'t quite get the question ;) All players connect to the same world/server, regardless of their platform. So you\'ll be playing with Mac users, Linux users, and Windows users, that will populate the same land. Was that it?

*edit*

Hot damn :P

Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Windows->Linux->Planeshift->Windows

I was fiddling around with Linux, trying to shift from windows altogether. But then I had to keep windows for games. So I was searching for games in Linux when a google search page directed me to planeshift. I did a search on wikipedia.com and they say \"planeshift looks promising\". I downloaded it and installed on linux, but the performance was poor. So I then deletec linux and now have come back to windows.

All for the sake of a game!

I have a stable linux client, although I have heard that some people have had some issues with crashes and whatnot, If there are problems tell us (the linux users) and we could be able to help :)

I have a dual boot system, with Linux and Windows. PS starts well in both the OS\'s, but the performance is a lot more choppy in Linux. The frame rate is very low, the mouse cursor \"sticks\" at the screen 3-4 times every second, as if running \"frame by frame\". My machine has sufficient CPU power to run the game (because it runs fine in Windows) but linux has issues.

I\'m using Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop, 15.4 inch widescreen display, 1.73GHz P4M, 1GB DDR RAM and onboard intel graphic accelerator (not sure about the memory though). I\'m running Windows XP, and Ubuntu Linux (5.10 Breezy Badger) on ext3 filesystem with 1GB swap partition.

Thanks!

Have you got the latest X drivers?
It very much sounds like a graphics problem...

This really isn\'t the place for linux howto\'s but...

it\'s most likely the driver for his integrated graphics chips.  PS runs fine on my 1 GHz PIII, 1 GB DDR, GForce 2.  Why, because the drivers all work properly.

One of the first no no\'s (at least for me) when installing linux is anything \"integrated\".  I\'ve only seen trouble.  Sometimes you have to live with it, ie laptops and I\'ve worked around most issues.  Anyway, I digress...

\"So Araye thinks linux suxors and windows rocks.\"  No, I prefer linux, but I plan ahead before building a system knowing that MS has major influence with equipment vendors and have made my choices more difficult.

But there are vendors that support Linux (Thank you NVidia) and dedicated programmers that stay up all night writing drivers and games so that I can use the OS of my choice.  Thank you PlaneShift devs!
