The server has 'failed'.

Right, I open up PlaneShift, get to the login screen, and BAM - \"Fail 100%\" Okay, no biggy, happens all the time, right?

Wrong...

BIG biggy, because, according to my computer, the server has been failed for several hours.

Nothing on the main page, nothing on the forums.

I\'m staring at laanx.fragnetics and there are 41 people online. 41 people playing on a \'failed\' server. Fancy that!

*Smacks her POS computer*

Yes, I\'ve updated. Yes, I updated again. No, none of the files failed the first time. No, there weren\'t any files to be updated the second time.

I\'m in need of the assorted smarts of you assorted people... Help before I CRACK!!! I was without PS for like, two or three weeks, and now I finally get it back, only to have it die in (i think) three days!

HELP!

Can you check your data/servers.xml file and tell me what the entries are in there for the server?

Ok, that seems correct, and as you point out the server is up because there are players on it.  Have you actually tried to login despite the \'Fail\' indication?

Hmm, strange.  It sounds like it could be some sort of network issue.  Sounds like something is getting blocked somewhere but I am unsure of where.    You mentioned that you were able to play before?   Maybe try again  in a day and if still no luck I can try to help further.  Stuff like this is hard to figure out because from my point of view everything is ok.

The other option is to check if you are behind a firewall and make sure that the port 7777 is open for connections.  This *might* be a problem from discussions on irc so we may change that port back to what it was before.

Look up the model of your router or your brand of firewall, depending on which you have. They should all come with manuals and guides, and a simple google search should reveal them a-plenty :) The thing is that there are just way too many variations to give you step-by-step instructions for, so your best bet is to go to the manufacturer and read up on how to forward a port.

I checked my system preferences (I\'m using Mac 10.4 as well) and turned off the firewall.  I still get the \"Failed\" message, and I\'m confused out of my mind.  I\'m new to the game, and I\'ve been trying to find a hint through the threads on what I\'m doing wrong.  Can someone help me out, please?  Thank you.

I too am a Mac user with a G4 powerbook and Tiger and having problems with connecting to server.  I turned off my firewall and still get the failed message.  Strange thing is I tried update and it too says uable to connect to server.  I checked the server and there are 60 people on it.  I am computer challanged somewhat.  Is this problem a mac wide problem?  I even downloaded the program several times with the same results each time.

My suggestion would be to browse through the Mac OSX forum a bit below this one - your issues may have been already addressed. Check the stickies and recent threads, just in case.

Right, so...

Norton AntiVirus off. Still failed.

Tried to reinstall. Still failed.

I\'m running out of ideas here. My computer is crap, I\'ve no idea what\'s up with it.. (Windows XP if you\'re wondering)

I\'ve tried shutting off my computer (That\'s a miracle; For a while it wouldn\'t turn off), nothing doing. Evidently my internet isn\'t responding, but I\'m on the internet right now, so that\'s also crap.

*Headbash* Just kill me.

Ok,
afaik Norton AntiVirus is an antivirus only, since Norton has a firewall software called Norton Personal Firewall... I think both of them came bundled with Systemworks?
Despite the fact of considering an Antivirus program change, since I, and with this I\'m repeating myself, seem to recall some claims of Norton taking too much resources.
Although there can be multiple reasons causing that you can\'t connect, the most probable one has been already pointed out, which is a firewall, either software or hardware (router) one.
You could try this things, to provide a little more of information.
Go to start-> Run. Then type in the box \"cmd\" without the quotes.
At the prompt that will appear type tracert laanx.fragnetics.com and post the results here.
If you\'re unsure about having or not a firewall, press ctrl+alt+supr and on the process tab you\'ll find all programs running on the computer, you can try looking if some is a firewall software or again posting here and let another do that for you.

As for the computer not shutting down correctly, perhaps the message \"you can now turn off your computer\" appeared, when normally the computer auto-shuted down?
If that\'s the case right click on my computer->properties select hardware tab, device manager. Click on Show->Show hided devices.
Now I don\'t recall its name, but you\'d see one item with a red cross if the system wasn\'t turning off automatically, simply select that item, go to properties and then enable it.
