might be a lil  :offtopic: but i think among ranged things of nonweapon variety it'd be cool to be able to have fireworks or flares of different colors, either very expensive or hard to obtain.. many rp uses etc... whether slung, flunk, shot, magiced or bowed, just be pretty cool...

based on a comment below about-- if it was a glyph it would have to run out or only be obtainable for higher level blabla-- it could be a combination of two, three or four realm 2 glyphs...

Boomerang:
Uses something like a 'boomerang' skill. proficiency determines how far you can accuratly throw it, how much damage it causes [and takes] and if it can actually return to you.
if it doesn't return it just falls to the ground where you can pick it up again. some may cause stunning Zelda style.

frisbee:
like the boomerang but you don't usually expect it to return. some versions may have saw-blades on them to cause extra damage. can magically enchant them to make them return like boomerangs. I kind of got the idea from the movie TRON with the Identity Disks. perhaps some could double as a shield when blocking damage.

Ball:
Like a baseball or something, just throw it and it causes blugening damage. can be made of metal or rock... or just throw a rock.


Also, if there could be a skill  for catching objects thrown at you and then some weapons built to be easily catched. Game of softball anyone?

heh, make rubber boomerangs, frisbees and balls that cause  no damage but can be used in a game.

ok read the first 2 pages of this thread and it is redicilous, guns and granades in ps? no way dont do it...

guns take all the fun of close combat away and so do granades, even if they're chemical dumb
besides, have you ever found chemicals around in ps??

long distance, bow and arrow and the magic stuff is enough if you ask me, this nonsence of katupults, granades, bombs and guns should never be added in ps...

frisbee, boomerang, ball....WHY???
frisbee? come on! dishes from the kitchen ok, but why the hell metal spiky frisbees?
boomerang..a stick works fine..why does it have to come back? it just makes you lazy, trow a stick and run after it like a dog does..
ball...stones work fine...nothing ball like, just stones which happen to lay around..

fireworks? that would be cute for parties ^^ however, if this would be a glyph, it should be a glyph that runs out and it can only be obtained by more experienced players or something so newbies won't be shooting firework arrows the whole day...

the herbal skill could be used for a little bag of poison to put on a arrow point so when it hits its target it will inject a bit of poison which makes its healthbar go down bit by bit untill it dies or finds a cure...
all that other chemical stuff is nonsence, why not have nuclair waste in game? ..  ::|

just some examples the way i see it
what would happen if guns are added:

I run with swords in my hands towards a trepor, almost there and I raise my sword high in the air, ready to attack, and a big bang! the trepor falls dead...Argh again a newbie with a gun...

what would happen if granades are added:
I'm walking towards the ruins and finally I arrive there, I see a group of people around the pit, I walk up to it and look down, 5 ulbernauts in the pit! suddenly some guy shouts "NOW!" and every single player around the pit starts trowing granades into the pit which kills all five ulbernauts within 20seconds....DOH and I came here to slaughter some ulbernauts with my swords...

what would happen if katupults are added:
as I walk around in my little humble house I hear some 'poofs' outside, I walk outside to have a look what it is. people run by like crazy and before I know it, a huge, but really HUGE stone falls towards my house, I start to cast strength spell as fast as I can and step on top of my house trying to defend it, once I wake up again, I'm in the death realm....after a loooooong walk I get out of the death realm where I see a completely destroyed world, only two fortresses are standing and still shooting at eachother....



This is just how I see things...Do with it what ever you want..

alchemy and herbalism used to enhance the effects of weapons are something ive always wanted

the day i have to use a god dam handgun to kill something is that same day that hell freezes over / pigs grow wings / e.t.c.

Everyone knows that pigs already had wings, until the rhinos cut them off. Hell is actually antarctica, and there you have it. /me gives Mindari a handgun.

Skner: I find those scenerios very funny. I'd love to see that happening.

 ;D That's because the Rhinos were jealous that the pigs were pink and they were just a dull grey.
   I've been outside, it's overrated and the graphics suck!

Personally I am glad there are no guns in ps. I think it makes the game different from others and quite frankly guns are not very warrior like at all. They are a cheat. BOOM! Your dead. Where is the fun in that? I like that training is avalible and that you have to be in physical combat of some sort if you do PvP or attack NPC's. If you want guns there are tons and tons of games made just for you.

I hope and wish to never see guns in planeshift.

what you say doesnt seem a very good motive atleast for me, first let me say im not in favor of guns but im not against either, the same principle you say to not have guns in PS would aply on   any kind of ranged weapon uses it...

altho guns in games usually tend to be over rated.

Hmm, personally I think guns are a bit too advanced for PS world. It's true that the first firearms appeared to our world in the middle ages, but there's no guarantee PS world develops the same path. Modern firearms are product of long development, and the early versions were much less effective in almost every possible way. Even modern firearms require constant maintenance, practice to use, and can jam. Finally note that a handgun shot does not kill a man instantly, unless hit critically. Then again, even a single punch can, if hit critically.

We do know that there is burning (lamp) oil already in-game. Basically you could light a pouch of that and use it as a weapon. However, the oil is not refined to such use, so I'd say it would be about as damaging as lighting up ones old cloak and throwing it on your aggressor. Bows, slings, throwing knives and similar would be far more dangerous, I think. Not to mention magical projectiles.

It would add to the realism and personality of the game if we could throw other items. Flowers in the weddings, seeds in the field, pebbles as a distraction, darts to the darts board... possibilities are many. But I must be getting off topic now.

My opinion in short; guns would require technology and knowledge that doesn't exist in PS world.

An interesting point... will the technology of PS ever develop? Are there inventors in Yliakum?

Maybe there might be a new, original type of ranged weapon that would be more advanced than a bow but would be different from a gun. I don't know how it would work though.
