Wow isn't a bad game, it's just different than Planeshift.
About the blood thing, you should see some kind of blood and maybe sparks if your sword is blocked by another sword/shield.
But nothing like limbs falling of and waiting 5 min just to see if anyone is coming on a solo-mission.
