If it is still too bright you could always play with the gamma level of your video card. If you are using windows it would be in the properties of the desktop somewhere. I think for nVidia cards you can save settings on a per program basis so you could turn ps down and leave the rest normal I do not know anything about other cards....

I am using the Omega drivers for ATI and it has an awsome user interface so it is easy to adjust anything. I have 4 different profiles setup for PS. depending where I go, I can just press a button and change the settings :)
