Update: was it really worth it?
« on: July 06, 2006, 10:00:24 pm »
Obviously we need to update the game at some point, otherwise we'll never get to the finished version. But doesn't it seem that things were better before the update? I mean, the new version LOOKS nice, and has more areas, but it crashes a million times a day, all the fenkis were forced to have white fur instead of black (if I wanted to have white fur I would have played a menki!), and I can't even find my way from Hydlaa to Oja or vice-versa. (I tried and ended up going around in a circle!) I liked the old version better, where things were a lot clearer, and mostly worked. Does anyone else agree?

How do you think we would ever get to the final version without updating?

How do you think we could ever find and fix all the bugs in these updates without you helping us?

Please remember, this is a test version and you are given the opportunity to test it. Be patient, report your findings (if they aren't already reported) and enjoy the game.

I know... I'm probably just frustrated because of the crashes. The other stuff I can probably live with eventually. Just fix those crashes.

We already did. Just wait for the updater mirrors to become alive.

Every update is very rough. Every update, devs spend hours when they should be sleeping, or with their family, or watching the game rushing to fix bugs that could not be found without 50 testers. Such as in this case: http://qdb.ps-mc.com/?58
player -> gm -> dev -> bum

I cant believe you said that.
Obviously you havent read anything about Plane shift. What we are playing now is only a fraction of what the finished game will be. If your getting lost now, just wait till its finished :)

OK, so all my complaints (except the fur thing) are basically nullified now. So... ignore this topic, of which I am highly ashamed. I like the update again!  \\o//

If you don't like the new skin, then just create another caracther with another skin. There are 3 models available for the enki race now that took a LOT of work to do.

So instead of complaining, please appreciate the work done by the developers. The game is a TEST. It is not a final game. Not updating is not evolving. And no one is interested in staying aback when we can improve. If there are many crashes it's because the developers are still developing the game. It will be fixed eventually.

Anyway, as I said earlier, I am well aware that updates are good. My first post was totally overreacting (Also I've had kind of a bad day in RL too so that might have factored into it). I am now capable of getting around and not crashing. In short:

And I need no reminding of it.

I just want to point out somethings. First and for most, we are testers. So as testers we should accept the following. The game crashes, the glitches, the confusion of the worlds change, the lag, The hiccups and bumps a new client might provide, exercising patience, understanding, to get self knowledge on the game and not expect others to just had over the info. Most of all to accept the game as is until it is made better. More often than not I think players forget this at times.

 Dictionary - test

*A procedure for critical evaluation; a means of determining the presence, quality, or truth of something; a trial
*A series of questions, problems, or physical responses designed to determine knowledge, intelligence, or ability.
*A basis for evaluation or judgment

To answer your question Siteri I personally after playing planeshift for a year love the update. It shows how much hard work the dev's have been doing. THey have given me a new world to play in with new objects, and skills to roleplay with.

Every new client release there are ALWAYS crashing of the server and major lag and bugs. That is why we are testers. We are supposed to report these things and help the dev's make the game better. If that is something that doesn't impress you then I suggest waiting for the actually game.
I've been outside, it's overrated and the graphics suck!

Dude, if you think we're crashing left and right then you need a history check.  This release went fantastic as releases go.  The server is currently about as stable as it was pre-release... that almost never happens.  There's only a few crashes and glitches here and there, many of which are already fixed and will be posted as an update sometime soon.  If this is too much for you, you're really in the wrong place.

If you're playing on our server, you're an alpha tester.  If you don't like that then don't play.  Please don't pretend that we owe you uptime or we should even care that you can't play.  Do not whine about bugs; report them.  Or, take the next step and hunt for them, or fix them yourself.

I can certainly understand the original point though in that things do tend to be worse ( sometimes a lot worse ) just after a release.  But over time those issues get resolved and everything starts to work normally again.  We are notified every single time the server crashes.   But as Veng said we need lots of people doing lots of things a lot of the time to find some of these bugs.  So if you don't want to be on the bleeding edge I would just hang on for a while until things stablize and then start playing again.
