I am actually excited for the imcoming wipe
« on: July 07, 2006, 01:59:41 am »
Yes, dare I say it, im very excited for this wipe, and I hope it comes very soon. It will allow for everyone to start at a clean slate, leveling the playing field so everyone can start off even while exploring these new lands. It will also allow for more unique characters to be made (apperance wise and story wise), and new oppurtunities for making perhaps a different type of character as well.

Is anyone else excited for the wipe, or do you all just dread losing your high level characters?

I really don't mind it. I didn't know what I was doing too much when I first started playing, so my base stats were not the best. And now that Kae'lith's fur has turned white, I'll be glad to be able to make her apperance more to my liking. And it's really worth it when so many new things precede it.

Heh, There will probably be another after this one, and chances are heavily in favour or one after that one.

I love wipes, because everybody gets to say "Okay this time, I'm going to be as strong as anybody else"

and then they don't do that, but there is always another wipe down the line.

I'm curious to see what the game is like once we have our final wipe.

The wipes are welcome to me not because I wish to have everyone at the same level. This will never be the case, as people always join way after any wipe. High level players also leave, and the PLs are back to their usual power within just a few weeks. It's been like that after every wipe.
Also, the wipe doesn't enforce creation of different or "better" characters. Not in the RP sense. In fact, if you RP properly, then you will not change your character at all in response to a wipe. There was no wipe IC-ly, so any change to a character in response to a wipe would be OOC and thus invalid.

The wipe will also have a problem for RP. I have always tried to match my stats towards what I RP. It makes sense to do that in case use of the stats happens to help RP, which is the case in a few, scarce, situations. However, I don't enjoy the levelling part, and therefore a wipe, for me, will mean that the balance I have approximately attained twice already, will be lost once more for an extended period of time, since I am not going to waste days grinding just to achieve that balance. I'd rather be RPing. And no, RPing that I somehow lost my skills and abilities is not RP, it's OOC.

Be assured that I am nowhere near "high level". At best, I'm at the low end of medium level, and I have seen quite several PLs who went from zero to "may be impossible to defeat" within just a few days.

Adding to that, it means that I'll have to reenter my description.

The only reason why I welcome the wipe is that there have been severe imbalances in the loot system, followed by bugged items and that the item wipe and the later removal of the bugged items (the ones that were found) didn't cover the extra stats gained by exploiting these. All of this is, of course, to be expected in the development stage PS is in ATM.

I, too, once mistakingly thought that regular wipes might stop PL. However, they don't, unless they happen on a weekly basis, which would clearly make having stats at all pointless.

You can always delete a char that you don't like anymore, and create a new one instead, not to mention that you already have the option to have not one, but four individual chars, and that is only per account.

This way, you could easily delete and recreate your char to change the fur color, even now, but you knew that already.

I'm curious to see what the game is like once we have our final wipe.

The final wipe for almost all online games I have witnessed, comes the day or week or two before final release, in order to clean slate the world before the game goes open public.  But, this already being open public, that generalising may not apply.  If it does though, then by playing the game before the final wipe you shall already know what is to be expected afterwards.  Thus, is one of the joys of being a game tester.

I dont think it should cause too much problems with rp since you can rewrite your description and name your new character your old name. But it can alos open up new rp possibilities. In general, im happy about it all.

I am perfectly aware of that, and didn't refer to it at all. ::) Instead, I referred to the imbalance of the stats vs. the RP'd character.
But it can alos open up new rp possibilities.
It might, on a few occasions, force actually making the already latent decision to create a different char. But I expect this to be an exception, not the rule. Through RP, a char can change without being deleted, and deletion can occur without wipes nontheless.

Edit: Oh, and I will obviously lose my mug, rotten meat, rockpick, freeze and wind glyphs and my ruined dagger, i.e. the few items that I actually use for RP.

In a way, I don't really mind the wipe, as my stats aren't very high, besides those that were given a few levels due to the way I created my character (I started off with level 5 crystal way).

What I don't like is having to start anew item and money-wise. It took me hours simply to collect enough rat parts to earn myself a few trias. Now I mine for my money. Having to start all of that all over again annoys me. I'll need to earn myself roughly 400 trias in order to be able to mine gold.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about the wipe either way. I think in this case I am not sure what to expect, so I am just going to go with the flow. To lose my stats and skills would only give me something to do and roleplay with. The only thing I will miss dearly is my panflute (I love roleplaying with it). I only know of three others who have one. I cherish it because it isn't common amoung the players.

I will not let go of my name or my character and her traits, as I have put alot of time and thought into her. I will play on in the new wiped planeshift as Zorbels, and deal with it the roleplay aspect of it as I go.

If you don't mind of levels why are you asking that? I mean..what changes for you if someone have better levels than yours?  :innocent:

The only thing that i'll be sad to lose are my gold falchions. As was for the silver falchions in the last wipe we had. I love weapons impossible to find around  ;D

I don't mind one either but...doesn't sound very close to me.

We really don't need yet another wipe thread.  This forum is plagued with them...

Yes, a wipe will happen soon.  The weird progression glitches might even make it needed sooner.
No, I don't know when it'll be.
Yada, yada, yada...
