Looking to update guide's Crafting section
« on: August 11, 2006, 05:17:18 am »
The Crafting section within my "Getting Started In-Game" guide is rather outdated, as there is so much more to do now. Since I'm not entirely in the loop on the various crafting processes, can anyone volunteer to rewrite that section? You'll be credited, just as Zhai was when she wrote the text for the "Asking For Help" portion.

Put as much information as you'd like - until the feeling that you're definitely giving something away. So if a certain sentence feels like a spoiler, PM it to me first to just double-check.

I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks!

*edit* TomT dug up a really good guide that deserved its own sticky, so there is no longer a need for further how-to's. Thanks to everyone who volunteered information, still!

Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

The dev team is a bit too busy to update forum guides :} Plus it's fun to involve the community.

kary is awesome... i thank her for this opputurnity(sp?)

well.. i haven't done much crafting yet... but here is a little about it

There are three area's within crafting

1. Mining.

all crafting starts underground, so does it in yliakum. There are various materials to gather from mining including silver, iron, coal, rubies and diamonds. All of theese can be used for melting, crafting, selling and auctioning.

2. Melting.

From gathering the ore the next step is melting, to filter all the unusable parts from teh ore into ingots or stocks ready for weapon, armor or shieldmaking.

3. smithing.

The last step is the hardest part, the smithing part... maybe some of theese tries will make unuseable items, hopefully you can remelt it, if not, back to the mines.

all of theese parts can be done on your own but is better faster and more effective if you are three within each area, you can recuirt melters, miners and makers depending on what you are and make a little crafting team, and who knows. Maybe open a little shop.

Hope this helps a bit

mining isnt exactly part of the crafting process but the materials are ;)
id say crafting would be divided into the diferent jobs ::example:: Blacksmith, weaponsmith, armorsmith, jewelrysmith, carpenter, herbalism etc etc

now within the jobs branch you have the processes involving each job
weaponsmith(mainly focus on weapons)
processes:
-smelting
-smithing
-?mounting? (process of putting all the item components together ex: a sword needs a handle, blade etc)

the smelting and smithing for blacksmiths, weaponsmiths, armorsmiths would be very similar, but the mounting party would be completely diferent.
rather on a jewelrysmith(metal parts) the smelting would be similar, but the smithing and mounting would be completely diferent.
