"First times" in PlaneShift
« on: October 03, 2006, 02:34:55 pm »
Ah... this is something to remember, no? Everbody has had a first time doing/seeing this or that, and we enjoy remembering such moments every now and then. Well, not all of them are pleasant... as you are about to hear in the following. Yes, yesterday was such a "first time" in PS, meeting a special category of people. And I didn't mean one representative, but two! Here's how it went...

Here I was in the plaza with a bunch of friends, and we heard that the tanner in Ojaveda needed some ulbernaut skins. So why not help him with that? Thus we decided to go hunting together. On our way there, up on the mountain, a friend of us suddenly stopped [he went AFK to answer the phone or something]. Strangely, right there in the middle of nowhere, also on the mountain was a lone adventurer. We approached and greeted him trying to make conversation until our friend "tied his laces".

The adventurer was a tad quiet [looked like he was AFK too], so we waited near by for our friend. All of a sudden, the adventurer wakes up and says:

Quote
[ADVENTURER_1] says: i dont speaks to donkeys

I was essentially speechless. What kind of a moron would insult three people who spoke nice to him up on a mountain in the middle of nowhere?! If that were to happen in real life, he would have taken one serious beating, that's for sure.

* Ralleyon slaps hiself awake and tries hard to move on

Aaanyway, after this "pleasant" incident we decided to mind our own business since we are not the kind to pick on lonely feller - even if dumb as a rock (no offense Krans!).

So , here we were, going to the heart of the mountain, in the vulcano pit when we pass by a fair lass fighting an ulber. Or better yet pretending to fight him. He was stuck in a hole and she was sending flame bursts towards him. After a couple of hits, he was still at 100% life. "Oookay", I say to myself and move on. Mages have a right to train as well, right? Right. Then by the will of the Gods, the planes shifted [server reboot - a bugfix was on its way].

[As usual, a server crash sends us to various places along the path, only not where we were at that specific time. In a few moments, we are back near the pit again]. So we stopped to have a little [group] chat, grab a bite and tell a story. Now for those who know the place, the way into the heart of the vulcano is down a slope, and the ulbernauts are somewhere down in the pit. We stopped on that slope for our chat, standing in a circle.

All of a sudden, the lass appears in the picture, obviously wanting to "hunt" an ulbernaut hereself. Fair enough. But here comes the interesting part. She didn't go down there and try to take on the ulber with her magic, she didn't speak to us about letting her do the trick with luring him into the little hole in the ground... noooo. That would have been normal. Instead, she sent a magical arrow towards him. Just like that. And we were in his way of course. And he was heading our way not hers, of course. That what a wild beast does.

But would anyone care to explain to me why the Death Realm did she do that knowing what would happen? Maybe she was an evil character, or maybe she was just plain old stupid. Of course, we took out our weapons and dealt with the ulber swiftly since he was coming towards us. Now... this story might sound normal from a certain point of view but my gut feeling tell me she wasn't an evil character, but just a plain old moron.

Of course, I confronted her with it:

Quote
Ralleyon shouts: If you wish to attack, don't draw it towards us milady
[ADVENTURER_2] says: no need to shout lizard man
Ralleyon says: You were far away
Ralleyon says: You have all the right to make a kill
Ralleyon says: But not on our heads
[ADVENTURER_2] says: you could have moved

[.... I was kind of dumbstruck here]

Ralleyon says: Yes... a group a four who were telling a story were about to move...
Ralleyon says: We're warriors, not sissies
[ADVENTURER_2] tells you: only the weak attack in groups - I was tackling the ulber alone and you intervened.

[...  ::| ... she was tackling the ulber alone... riiiight... and we just happened to be in the way. Why the heck didn't she go down to tackle him, then?! If that was supposed to be the roleplay of an evil character she lost me somewhere along the way. That sounded just plain old idiotic to me... ]

Ralleyon smiles "Thanks, you are a sweetheart."

Needless to say I lost my appetite to talk to her after having been convinced with hard evidence that she was a even dumber than the first one.

So, folks, this was my "first time" to meet utter and complete RETARDS. Can you spell retard? Let me help you. R-E-T-A-R-D. Gee... and I who thought [GM]Dave was spicing his stories up. Sheesh, how wrong I was.

Haha. I had fun reading that. There are alot of people like that in alot of games.

Especially the 'I Don't Talk to Donkeys' Type of person. :D

May i suggest, not saying Retard? It may cause offence to some people. Just a tip.

The only two people that would be offended are the ones which starred in this little story. If they do read this, I would really want to know what was in their heads at the time since it was too stupid to be anything close to RP. If not, then who cares? Have a good laugh, it's the Hydlaa Plaza after all.

Do you know the player's names? I thought you did because you said [Adventurer 1] etc.

If you do why not /tell them and ask them why?

* Ralleyon imagines himself sending /tell's to those two adventurers and asking them "Why are you so retarded? Please write a short essay of 300 words maximum answering that question."

First times in PS, ow dear... there I go.

I had many first times in PS. For example, it was the first time I ever charged a monster 8 times my size un armed. The first time I looked at a statue and wondered how to climb it. And also the first time I drank 18 Mountain Range Dwarven Ale without feeling as much as a teeny weeny bit wiggly.

Wow, the ammount of "first times" I had in Yliakum are more then I would dream of... or even hope for. Allow me to highlight one for you all.

Proglin's most interesting "First time"

What in the world is this?

So there I was, in PS. Took me way to long to download the blasted game, so started of grumpy. I looked at my blue winged char and thought. Wow! I look cool! My mood changed from grumpy to slightly less grumpy straight away. I walked arround a bit, like all noobs do. Bash your head against a wall.... thrice. Trade with people you don't know. Accidentely challenge an ancient and maxed out player and  so on and so forth. It was only later I found out about the wonderful chat system that Planshift has. I figured, let's give it a try. But smart as I was, I tried the help window first, and took a look at the commands.

"Kernan shouts: I NEED WEP! WHERE CAN I FIND?"
"You got warned by a GM: don't shout using caps, let alone shouting out questions like that"

Huh? What in the world was that?

"Kernan shouts: I NEED WEP AND TRIA!!! HELP!!!!"
"GM tells you: Hey, I just warned you, don't you speak english?"

Hmmm... what in the world is GMtells you? Oh well...

"Kernan shouts: ANYONE?!?!?!?!"
"GM tells you: that's it..."
"You got muted by a GM."

At that point I looked for muted in my good old pal, mr. dictionairy. OMG! Muted?!? Why? All I did was ask a question... sheesh! Bunch of !@#$

Yes people... I was one of those noobs. I was so angry I deleted Kernan instantly, and left PS alone for a week, which, later on, turned out to be some sort of personal record. A week without PS... sheesh!

"He.... I look cool"

So there I was, near the temple, with a brand new dwarf called Proglin. And thought "Hmmm, what does that say? *reads* Ah! Help! Let's try that out! And that's where it all started, I role-played for the very first time. And up till now, it's one of the best "first times" I ever had. Now let's hope my GF doesn't take this wrong.

Thanks people.
yours, the entertainer

My first experience with Planeshift was pretty bad actually

So, I was a noob playing Runescape (I finally admit it..), but the game bored me more and more. There were lots of retards and the graphics were...well...bad ;) I played it 2 months max I think.

So then I started to play iRose, played it two months too, but then it turned Pay to Play, and I left.

Then, on a Dutch tech-website if frequented, I saw a thread about free MMO's, and there was this guy talking about "PlaneShift", an opensource game. Of course I was interested, it wasn't only free, but opensource even!

So I went to the game's website and read it's background.....completely.
Yes, I first read the background and only then downloaded the game, I don't know what had gotten into me  :D

So I logged into the game and was immediately disappointed.
I expected this huge grand incredibly cool world, but the world was almost empty!

I looked around, to the left I saw this guy floating high in the air, on some sort of pile of crystals.

Pretty soon I found out that the game was still in development and the background was only how the game would be in the future.

So I walked around, trying to find people. I found them in the temple.

Me: Hello
Others: ...
Me: Hi, how are you?
Others: ....
Me: So what can I do in this world?
Others: ...

Yeah, they ignored me. All the long-time MB players had made a nice little club, and they let no one in.
Nice.

So I walked around the temple and found a diamond, which I knew was the current currency.
I clicked the diamond, but what next? How did I pick it up? I saw no pick up commands.

Me: Hey, I found a diamond!
Me: How do I pick it up?

A while later this guy walked over to me.

Guy: Like this....

He then picked up the diamond and walked away.

Right...

So I logged off of course.

I then read the forums and started to post there, joining the crowd of people who were highly anticipating the Crystal Blue release.
I logged in several times more, exploring the world, picking up stuff, making bug reports about stuff known for ages... the usual.
Hell, I actually had decent conversations with some people!

Then when CB was released, it was great!
Because of all the new people, the old clubs fell appart, and the community got more open.
I could finally play the game without being ignored!
I started to play the game very actively.

And I'm still around today :)

I have neither since CB, of course there are lots of retards around, like that guy called "Cookie Behemoth" yesterday (though spelled without the "h"). But they can't get my mood down, this game is just great.

Wow Proglin, I never would have guessed.

Hi everyone... yes I've been away for a while.  I don't have a "first time" story, but I must say that I'd never been hit on as much until I started playing PS! ROTFL. I considered creating a male character so that wouldn't happen, but I though "Nah, this won't be like all those poker-room chat rooms(Which get pretty bad if your a girl btw).  Anyways, I think I've gotten hit on by someone from every generation.  No offense to the guys, but it's kinda weird.  :sweatdrop: I guess that's my first-time story.

I could tell you though that I became queen of the DR from the very beginning.  I got lost down there for hours the first time I went on. (How fun!) Back in the days when it was pretty tiny and nothing was really there... Well, that's my reason for not having a first time story.

If I get a good one in the mean time though, I'll let u all know.  :D

I remember my first time in Planeshift.

It all started one terribly boring morning.  I decided that morning that I like free games so I googled it.  Low and behold, the god of the internet bought me to Planeshift.

For the first little while I tro..posted on the forums before jumping in game.

My first log in when something like this

Cadoras (Or whatever name I was using at the time) shouts : I am a noob, help me
Other (Can't remember...Hevrah I think...prehaps Golmir): Do you really want those to be your first words
Cadoras: As long as they aren't my last.

It was a nice short noobedom.  I entered at an interesting time you see, because CB was right around the corner.  Sadly, the corner just kept on moving and moving and moving.

I loved MB, I love CB, but MB was special.  From the crystal hunting to the... umm... crystal hunting.  To the modding and the rolplaying.

When CB came out I went into an MB-withdrawal and left Planeshift for a couple of months, that's how much I loved it.

Thats exactly how I felt. I loved MB and I left Planeshift for a while also. I loved MB that much.

I was quite glad that MB moved further and further away. The last day of MB was good though! Lots of cool things happening.

I loved the Crystal hunting, and the games people used to make up to pass time etc. I wish MB could be ressurected  :'(
