If I understand this correctly, the game is now unplayable for me.  I run Ubuntu 64bit GNU/Linux in version 6.06 or something (the latest release).
I will have to wait "a few days" for the "linux version".

What about the source code ... wouldn't I be able to get the source downloaded and compile it myself?

Yep, I un-installed, re-downloaded and reinstalled but updater doesn't work we need to wait for now oie oie oie.

Thank you team! You guys are awesome. No matter how many times we may be off with our prioirities or wish lists, the game is great and it's important to acknowledge that.

I'm thrilled I can play again (after almost 4 months!). I dunno what bugs I'll run into but at least I have a chance to RP again.

This is my first post on this forum...

Well...
After downloading and installing 3.018, I managed to run the installer (took two tries though). This "updated" my version back to 3.017. 
(Yeah, I didn't read the instructions that told me not to run the updater.)

I ended up uninstalling what that left me with. Then I attempted to install 3.018 again  - this failed when it reached updater.exe. After deleting all the files in the game folder (I had to restart my computer before it stopped complaining that they were in use) I tried reinstalling again, and this time it worked.

So... now I'm just waiting for the server to come back on.

Don't use updater Its the curse of PS, that when new release comes, before the updater will have recent files, it takes a longer while (weeks)
Get used to the open source project in development rules . I think it is worth, as you will learn things you normally wouldn't playing WoW for instance.

Also, on the restarting issue... Don't blame PS. Blame M$. It is their system, which won't let you do what you want.

Linux and Mac versions have already been available for 2 weeks now, but it has not been announced on the Planeshift homepage yet.
Hence my question: when the updater works, where will the notice be posted?

NB : The fact that, when there are no newer files on the update server, the updater reverts PS back to 0.3.017 instead of doing nothing at all, isn't it a bug in the update process more than a rule of open-source development?

Yes, I agree, it is a bug.  I guess its because of this bug that they placed the warning on the front page.

What I don't know, is whether this bug is being tracked.

Heh, hard to believe it was that long ago that I stopped playing. Well I'm back, and from the looks of this topic's first page, some good changes occurred while I was gone. According to BitTorrent, I'll find out in a few days...
