Stalactal awareness.
« on: March 01, 2007, 04:15:49 am »
This may have been discussed before, but I really don't care.

Do Yliakians actually realize they're in a stalactite? I mean, would it be common knowledge? I know there are things like the garbage wells and what-not, but do they actually realize their situation? I just heard someone refer to the stalactite while RPing in-game today, and it struck me as somewhat odd... I mean, as far as I understand, nobody has actually seen the stalactite from the outside, so how would they know? Maybe it's a hypothesis, but would it be common knowledge?

Opinons?

I don't really think they'd know about it...but then again, they may have gotten information from simply deducting a few things. Such as the different levels forming downward in a point, and the "roof" referring to the Azure Sun.

According to the Settings, there are some Xacha scientists that presented a "Stalactite theory", but it was never proved.

So I guess the "average man" probably wouldn't know about it. Although the "scientifical community"(Yliakum scientists and researchers) certainly knows about such possibility.

Right, my understanding was something along the lines of what lordraleigh said, as well...

I don't know if I would say that noone apart from the scientific cimmunity is aware of the theory but I would say that noone should refer to it as definatly being a stalictite. I mean alot of us here are aware of scientific theories of today and as far as I know there is an education system in Yliakum.

It could also be word-of-mouth from one of the gods...

Not totally reliable, but understandable that someone would take it for granted that they're in a Stalactite, just like Christians take it for granted that there's a Heaven...

Theories of this kind always find there way to the public, wether it is accepted or not is another thing.

Some might accept this as fact, while others think it is lunacy. So if in game, someone mentions living in a stalagtite, you can agree or call him an idiot for thinking such a thing.

I bet there would be a tunnel or two offshooting the main passages behind the bronze doors. If they do, there probably is a few stories of one of the tunnels suddenly ending in a giant open abyss or the like. It may have been in the books that have been lost, or it may be in some of the songs that are sung to children.

Who knows? It does leave lots of room for posibilities.

All great truthes begin as blasphemies- SHAW

Mining is forbidden on all levels save the first due to this theory so I assume it's knowledge to common man.

Is it really? I can't recall reading that, and that means I'm slacking off! Where's this info found? :]
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.
