New Stamina System (including food usage)
« on: April 01, 2007, 10:44:19 pm »
I was thinking a litlle and realised that current stamina sytem is good, but mine idea is maybe more realistic.

the way of having two staminas is OK, but i mean other two.
  - Stamina
  - Energy

Stamina is similiar to the current green and black bars. It decreases with running, fighting, mining ...
Decrases by : Running, Fighting, Working and other physichal activity.
Increases by : Time, without hard activity
As Stamina increases it decreases the Energy bar

Energy is something like merged daylong stamina and hunger. Even the strongest warrior need to relax somethimes. Noone want you to sleep ingame, because looking at your charakter just lying on the ground should be booring a lot.
Decreases by : time, increasing of stamina
Increases by : Eating, Drinking, Staying in Relaxable places (Tavern,Hot springs (Thinking about the Yliakum spa)
Hearing music played by skilled and talented musicians should increase the energy regeneration speed, music from less gifted has oposite efect. When your Energy falls to zero you will be moved to DR, because you've died from starvation.

In Game Possibilities
  - Food usage
  - Need to get packed when you are going on long journey (Hydlaa <=> BD)
  - Increase number of People in taverns (In medieval people prefers spending in tavern instead of near local blacksmith)
  - It is more real than the current system

I live this idea, but I was wondering. Shouldn't the stamina gain from the energy? Because of you are hungry and tired, it will be hard to go for a 10km run ... Also, once you have done your 10km run, to gain enough stamina to go for another 10km run, it will require energy. So for example, to go from a stamina of 0% to a stamina of 100%, it might take 25% of your energy ...

I was also thinking that for the the energy to go from 100% to 0% should take about 1 1/2 to 2 days (it would depend stats), just standing in a neutral place, without doing anything.

With the thing about energy recovering in the tavern. I reckon some other things should make you gain energy, and some things would make you loose stamina.

Things that would make you gain energy:
  • Being surrounded by people, and the more people you are surrounded with, the more the energy will increase. eg. Having 5 people in a 5m radius would increase your energy of 5 per half-an-hour. And being surrounded with 10 people in a 5m radius will increase your energy of 10 per half-an-hour
  • Being in a town. We could possibly include the area of the town such as towncenter, outskirts, etc.

Things that would make you loose energy
  • Being in the country side, since you have to always be careful of creatures.
  • Being in surrounded by creatures, and the more creatures you are surrounded with, the more the energy will decrease. e.g. Having 5 creatures in a 5m radius would decrease your energy of 5 per half-an-hour. And being surrounded with 10 creatures in a 5m radius will decrease your energy of 10 per half-an-hour
  • Being in areas of bad reputation. e.g. the sewers.

One Day in PS takes 4 hours of OOC time, dont you think that doing nothing for 6 Hours should be little boring???

... yes, 4-6 hours would be too long in OOC time, but here comes the things, are you going to do it for the player or the character? If it is for the character, 4-6 hours is alright, but if it is for the player, it should be 1/2 hour to 1 hour. That will all depend what the players prefer: ingame realism or player's realism ...

  - Food usage
Actually this works in that way in-game (if you eat or drink something your HP and Stamina wil raise)

  - Need to get packed when you are going on long journey (Hydlaa <=> BD)
  - Increase number of People in taverns (In medieval people prefers spending in tavern instead of near local blacksmith)
This could be easily done with RP and is better than waiting to be 'tired' (you could rp that you are actually tired)

[IC]20PM. The light from Azure Sun is getting low. It's difficult to see where the road leads. Eagel is running, but those Ulber furs are heavy.
- Feewf! Time to rest a little... That hill will be good, I can see if anyone get close to me.
Eagel take some wood and start a little fire. He looks into his pack and take a fresh fish.
- Well, this light could attrack some beasts, but I'd like to cook my fish. Anyway, it's getting cold...
[/IC]

And, about the spending location... I think it's just a fashion.
Now it's Harnquist... Tomorrow could be any place.
When Ojaveda has more Dsar availables I think would be Trasok or Brado's.

So what?
Do you run faster? Do you swing sword faster? Does what you hear sound faster? No, no and no. The conclusion is the time also isn't going faster!!
People, stop making these assumptions.

ehmm Nikodemus, I don't really get your point. The ingame time ticks faster then the OOC time anyway, but the character seems to be going at the right speed in OOC time ... If one day is shorter, it does not necessarily mean that the characters go faster.

personally, i think two systems is a bit of overkill. my idea of a solution would be:

1) walking should not decrease stamina (doesnt happen in real life, really is annoying)
2) eating food, such as all the apples randomly lying around, should increase stamina
3) MAYBE two levels of "running" (running and sprinting) >>>remember, just a crazy thought<<<

but the food idea is brilliant
