exception access violation
« on: June 15, 2007, 01:11:50 am »
well, when I start the planeshift client it comes up with an error saying "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" it also had lots of numbers that i forgot. It was working the night before and i've tried rebooting my pc, reinstalling planeshift and turning the vertex buffer on(not sure if that helps). I'm not sure whats going on here and I really want to play.

Please help!!

Remember that you need to give us as much detail as possible when asking for help - we're not psychic, so we can't figure out what the problem may be if you leave some things out. For example knowing the numbers that came up in the access violation may be pretty vital. We can try moving your character in case the problem is in the map you logged out in, but we'll need your character's name as well in that case.

well, soz for not giving you much details. I'm not the greatest at computers. I'm wondering if you have done anything cos it's working fine now :D. I don't know why it started working but I'm so glad. Thanks anyway. :)

I'm always getting this same message.  Sometimes it's while going from one area to another, when a person is casting a spiffy spell (don't know the name of it but there is a lot of fire swirling around the caster) ... there is another spell that looks like a single white flame flying towards a target, and of course just random times it feels like it wants to happen.  On occasions rebooting the computer will fix the issue ... sometimes just starting the game over will fix it.

This is the first message:
Something unexpected happened in planeshift: crystal blue
Details: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 697296b5
would you like to save a diagnostic file?

after making the diagnostic file ...

Saved dump file to "file path/Planeshift_character name_version_date_addr697296b5.dmp"
Please consult the planeshift forums for more details.
blah blah concernces pricacy see Microsoft.com blah blah

last window is:
Runtime error

Program: "Path\psclient.exe"
R6025
-pure virtual function call

Hope that counts for enough info

Try turning on Vertex Buffer in PlaneShift's setup utility. If you're not sure where that is, it's the application called pssetup.exe in your main PS directory (C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue by default).

There seems to be a few differant ACCESS VIOLATIONS ...

I just received on ... 0055df5d ... on another computer there was one with a different series of numbers but the window was closed before I could copy them down

on both computers we have changed them as suggested.

Take a look at this thread for access violations. Yours may not always be listed, in which case you should follow the instructions posted.
