How to enter a guildhouse in 0.3.019
« on: September 01, 2007, 10:40:48 pm »
Hi,
due to a small bug, you cannot enter a guildhouse in version 019. To fix this just go to your planeshift installation folder, under /art/world and rename gh_law.zip into guildlaw.zip , then restart planeshift and you should be able to enter the guildhouse.

NOTE: guildhouses are supposed to be locked, so if you receive a "Entrance locked" it's not a bug, it's made by purpose. You need a key to enter, which only the members of the guild owning the house have.

Why does everyone have access? Doesn't seem to require keys.

Seems a bug is allowing some people in, but not everyone. We are working to fix it, in the meantime ask the owners if they let you visit the house :)

for the ones who got in the guild house before renaming the file, ask a friend of you or make an alt char and ask for moving your character into the death realm. then rename the file in art folder said above and go into the guild house once again with your character. it will fix the bug caused at the beginning.

There is an element of 'trust' involved in showing people around the house... as it involves giving a key - and if that person is not nice, they might not give the key back.  I do so hope this does not happen - and if it does will GM's be able to retrieve the key?

I would prefer there to be need of only one key, or deeds - and a magical lock that the sign of a guild member unlocks the door - i.e. the guild leader has the key, and that allows all his/her members access. [surely that is less messy than having loads of keys floating about in game?]

What about inter-guild pantry raids? Will pick lock finally be useful? I might get the munchies....

well my question is if lock picking becomes useful, what determines what makes an 'easy' lock and what would be a 'hard' lock, or would the only difference between levels be how long it takes to pick a lock?

Granted, the system isn't perfect yet but, I'm sure the devs are all working on it pretty hard.

For now, I think the important thing is congratulating the Devs, houses have been in the plan for a while and now they've met that milestone.

by the way, a huge thank you to all who allowed me to have my house in Hydlaa... characters such as Donari, Yanlora, Gag, Miaua and many more...

And of course a big hug to the devs who made it possible.

I don't know about your idea Loltira...if only the guild leader can unlock it then no guild members can use the house unless you are online, is that what you want?

well on her idea, you could have it IF $guild == royal house of purrty THEN person can enter the house (sorry its just easiest for me to think of something like this in those terms), and Lolitra would have a deed or something saying that  royal house of purrty owned that house.

Personally I like the idea of having keys and the trust factor involved. It seems realistic to me and almost makes me wish for a less shady aspect of the lock picking skill where someone can not only make extra copies of keys for a lucky homeowner but, one where they can change the front door locks if a spare key goes missing or a new owner buys a building.

I think the main problem and least realistic aspect of the way the key idea functions now is that, as I understand it, the owner has to give the key to a guest to enter. Instead of doing away with keys all together, why not have some way where a person with a key is able to unlock the door and invite a guest in? Much in the way irl a person will unlock their front door and let their friends inside before closing the door behind them. Anyway, just an idea.

Also, I'd like to congratulate Lolitra and company on getting the new longterm lease on their house... it really wouldn't seem right if someone else was living there. :)

@ Aerianna:

Lolitra's idea was to be able to allow entrance to people by inviting them (opening the door for them).

I doubt that this would be easy to code. Already the key system got tricked -- by activating it too late.

P.S.: When it was possible (months ago), I retextured only this house. Now, with the binary world file format, it is nearly impossible (at least without a working world file converter).

Don't argue about the quality - it was just a "proof of concept".

My idea was, that the Guild Leader had the master key or deeds, which then meant that all guild members had access.. errespective as to whether or not they were online.  This would mean that in the guild tab could have an additional tab - House Guests.. to which you could add and certain guild member's have permissions as to whether or not they are allowed to invite guests...

Though I do like the idea of keys - but presently they are limited to only 9 of them, which is no where near enough for all the guild.  Also the need for so many keys, when more houses are made - would create a flood on the database possibly taking up too much memory?  I will have to bow to others greater knowledge of programming on this.

Perhaps as mentioned above - the ability to unlock a door, and lock it... to allow guests in?

Well I can only say that I am very honoured to have this house.
