Alright, your "day" looks bright to me. This may be hardware dependent then, somehow. Or related to driver-internal gamma corrections? Who knows.

At least, when posting screenshots with interesting content, I would recommend gamma correction (for "night shots" at least). The better people can recognise the content, the easier they can enjoy it. ;)

I play lots and I  mean LOTS of games, paid for and "free" mmorpgs and good old rpgs... anyway I am unable to play your game due to the darkness levels. I upped in-game gamma to max ( like +3.1 ) and maxed my monitor and 3D video card to the max settings. Now in daytime running around the world everything was fine, until I fell into what I guess was a well inside of a building. Died and ported to the death plane. I could see at best 10% of what I guess I would need to manuver to an exit ( which I am assured is there from the in-game advisors, I wouldnt know I was unable to find to it.) after about 10 falls to my death I'm tossing in my towel. Too much trouble to enjoy gameplay before reaching a single level. I post this in hopes you can fix this issue, good luck all. uninstalling.

You need a better video card.

lol your funny how is it that my card works fine with Wow, EQ, Daoc,Coh,Cov,Aoe, list goes on and on.  listen all I do with this system is play games. I'm well aware that my inragated video isnt top of the line but this game should not require a "better" video card to play THIS game... the graphics in this game which are on the very low end should run  on a system that was bought less than a year ago... not to mention it should probably run fine on a system bought 7 years ago. We are not talking top of the line, mind blowing Crysis type graphics here. For what it offers it really should run fine on just about any system that was preinstalled with windows 98. next your going to tell me my dual core 3ghz isnt a fast enough cpu. sheesh.

Anyhow, its would seem I'm not the only one with this problem. how many people do you think are willing to upgrade thier graphics cards for this game.... I wouldnt hold you breath. Maybe a few die hard fans, but thats about it. I came into this game not expecting much, I can play muds and use my imagination to fill in what missing visually. I was also attracted to the RPG aspect of this game as I play pen & paper AD&D few times a month. I respect this game for what it offers if it sounds like I'm bitter its becasue I thought I found a game that I could really dig my teeth into.

I could be wrong here, but the specific OpenGL or DirectX instructions used in PS are not optimized for anything beyond ATI or nVidia. This isn't so much that your video card is crap or anything... just that with a volunteer game like this, they do not focus as much as other games on supporting every video card.

A year or so ago I used to play with an Intel card as well. Other than the occasional darkness, I didn't have problems playing it. Earlier in the thread some folks have set their Gamma higher or set the monitor brightness upper, so maybe that one of these methods and see how it fares?

Forgot to mention I had the official Intel drivers installed, not the system default.

One thing you have to understand about the death realm is that the floor really is all black, as is, I guess, the ceiling and that makes it very dark. The parts that you can see are the spires that come out of the darkness and only those areas are meant to be travelled. There is relatively little to see in the death realm.

Intel's GPUs don't work together with CrystalSpace (our graphics engine) very well, especially since their openGL implementation and perfomance is pretty poor.
Best thing you can do is to make sure you've Intel's latest drivers installed. The drivers shipped with Windows make things even worse.

I have an intel 915GM Express, so even older, and except occassional weirdness (black roads nearby, psychedelic portals) and being not too fast, in general things look OK

I still suggest that you need a new video card. On Board video cards are stupid especially intel ones. If you have a darkness issue then best way to fix it is update the drivers, if that doesnt work use the gamma correction (F11 and F12) and if that doesnt work (and you have a good monitor) switch your monitor to game mode (my dell monitor makes it look better doing this).

Im being blunt sorry if i was harsh. Wow doesnt require much to play, but does require a lot to play it well (bloom etc).

Suggest a sticky for cards that work well with planeshift and driver versions that work well with planeshift. ATI 8.552 works well on my Radeon X1650.
