Bad Graphics?
« on: June 25, 2008, 10:35:15 am »
Well, I'm a new player with a Windows thing installed, and when I finally put on the server and logged in, I realized that the 3d characters weren't fully loaded and looked really bad, although screenshots show them all fine. And also, it's really, really slow, so that whatever I do or click happens slowly after a few seconds.

Is it just my own laptop? I've tried this about four times now.

Hello,

can you tell us more about your system? Specs, OS etc.
In case you are using linux, try
Code: [Select]
glxinfo | grep directon a console. This should show you if your 3D-acceleration works fine. If you see an 'indirect' it means that your opengl is probably not correctly installed.

There are more commands like this but I forgot them  ;)

But as first guess I'd say your openGL doesn't work correctly.

First guess: You're graphics drivers are outdated. Update them! :)

Well, its windows system, XP I think. Could you tell us what graphics adaptor you aree running? (nVidia. ATi or Intel) You should update them as Peeg said.

You may wish to try the "preload models" option in the Planeshift configuration utility. (But considering your UI is corrupted I doubt it would help.)

It may be a wild stab in the dark, but could  you check what colour depth your system is running in? The backdrop of Character Select screen looks very much like 256 colours.
