acraig, you were right, it was GL mode. i just compared it with the software mode, and GL is about twice faster that soft. still, it seems a bit slow for a 900MHz even in GL mode...  i know, i know... is alpha :)

thanks acraig

Hey Acraig.
I get the following message:

No CEL environment variable set!
Warning: Failed to load \'csddsimg\'; use \'-verbose\' argument for details.
Warning: Failed to load \'csjngimg\'; use \'-verbose\' argument for details.
Warning: Failed to load \'cssgiimg\'; use \'-verbose\' argument for details.
Warning: Failed to load \'cswalimg\'; use \'-verbose\' argument for details.

So ure saying that this is not a problem and is nto whats causing my game to run slowly?

My comp is:

1100 mhz AMD Athlon
GeForce 2   -64mb video ram
Some crappy built-in sound card
512mb of ram
Windows XP Pro

If that error message isnt a problem, can you tell me of a way to speed up my gameplay? Like, tell me what i can chage in all those configs in the /data/config directory?

The game runs slowly because the engine \"Crystal Space\" is also in development so as PlaneShift gets better so does the Crystal Space engine.  The CS team is working very hard on their new OpenGL renderer and we have high hopes for it :).

The fact of the matter is that it will take a time for us to have a fully optimized highly tweaked engine that is lightning fast.  But we are all committed to that goal so we will have to see.  A good quote I try to remember... \"Never give up on a dream because of the time it will take,  the time will pass anyways.\"

So even if it takes 20 years then I will have still satisifed my dream of what PlaneShift will be.

Hahaha lol, in 20 years ill be 36 and most likely i will not be playing MMORPGs any more.

also, is there any way to make the game use Direct X instead? im pretty sure there isnt, just being stupid/curious.

Actually, you would be suprised.  More and more adults are playing games these days.   For me working on PS is a way to keep my programming skills sharp, to learn more about different system like networking, database, etc.   So even if I am working on PS in 20 years I will be still learning.

There is currently no DirectX plugin for Crystal Space but if somebody wants to write one then I am sure they will have the full support of the Crystal Space team.  However, they are concentrating on OpenGL because it can run under many different platforms while DirectX limits you to windows.   OpenGL is just as good as DirectX in graphical rendering.
