I sat by the tree near ol’ Harnies’ listening to the crowd discuss with the Guard, the situation of the attacks and what was and was not being done to ease the situation.  The endless insistence, of the crowd to use force was grating at my good sense. Normally I agree that one should defend themselves and loved ones. Though, in this case combat was proven futile. The guards also were taking action, more so that they had ever done in the past. The guards were obviously struggling under the weight of their current investigation and the crowds they meant to protect. I spoke out at times, pointing out the futility of swords against this particular adversary, to no avail. So today I was merely observing.

That is, until a guard leaned in and whispered. He said, the guard would like my help, was I willing. Of course I was. The situation was Chaotic and I had already been struggling with how to bring about balance. This opportunity was indeed most welcome. The guard need me to get myself arrested and for it to look convincing.

With a nod I began to berate the guard as if I had been given a great insult. My insults grew loud and hostile. I must admit I did enjoy the ruse. Then I commanded my groffel, Bacci to attack the guard. The first bite from Bacci wasn’t enough so again I commanded her attack. As the Guard cast the incarceration spell I could see Bacci had a good hold upon the guards pant leg. I had successfully gotten myself arrested.

I emerged in a cell. Much nicer than the one I found myself in a few days prior. In front of my cell two guards greeted me. They released me from the cell and asked me to sit. I was first asked to give my oath that I would speak not a word to anyone of the conversation that was to transpire. I agreed to keep my silence giving my word as a Magi.

Now that the situation has been resolved I have been given liberty to speak.

The plan was laid out before me. I knew I was to be bait. Indeed I was correct. The staff, I was told, was one of the very ones used by the guards. It was stolen, although I was not made privy to the details surrounding it’s theft. The guard proceeded to explain, that they had in secret enlisted the aid of other citizens. Each enlistee was given enchanted Tria . The goal was to weaken the ill-gotten staff wielded by the rouge. It was the task of those who had been given this tria to allow themselves to be attacked and most importantly robbed. The coins had to be passed to the rouge for the plan to work, and he was not to be aware that they where anything other than common Tria. For this I had to be a convincing victim. My pride would have to be laid aside in the interest of my goal. Though the thought did not sit well, it was a small sacrifice to accomplish balance and end the reign of this rouge for good.

I set out to the east end of the city. I knew of many dark alleys where a thief would feel his courage. I called for Bacci as if she were lost to give a reason I would be wondering such dark places. I was not long in my wondering when I felt the cold dagger at my throat. I gave up my coin purse containing the rouges fate as I pleaded for my life.  I had to continue the ruse to the end. For spies and cohorts could be anyone. I acted the victim running through the streets calling for help. Untill at last the guard would take my statement.

I for one, am honored to have been of assistance. I know well sometimes the best solutions hide in secret veiled to those well meaning saboteurs who care too much and react too quickly.  The Guards , much to my delight, redeemed themselves by employing calm diligence and tact.

HAIL !!!!  to the good Guards of Hydlaa. Let not your victory this day stand alone.

[I have to say large scale events like this are incredibly time consuming and not realistic for the short term bubba. My hope is that events of this nature will encourage more people to join the teams (gms, settings, engine, art, testers, all participated in this one) so that we can in fact do this more often. Certain changes have been made to make it the case that all devs willing to receive gm training get it, while this helps gms a lot it does take us away from developing. We will always need more quality people, if you don't know how to help, ask.]

The Night Rogue of Hydlaa looks from out the cell pondering "How shall I free myself now . . ."

Dajoji credited himself last, god I hate false humility, he was in fact the organizational force that kept this together]

[This was a fantastic event.  Kudos to the entire PlaneShift team for pulling this kind of thing off and for doing such a great job with it.  All of you deserve a lot of credit for being able to pull something so grand off.  (Especially you, Dajoji.  That cell is awesome.)  Don't any of you all be modest about it.]

Was fun playing the two named characters.... and the ones that shall go unnamed as well. Every great plot needs a face or two planted in the crowd.

[sorry, couldn't post earlier...]

Of course I heard of that dark rogue before. But I didn't saw anything of him, or knew anyone who was robbed. I just was annoyed by all this fuss that made around him. I just wanted to enjoy myself a bit in Kada Els and didn't need any horror stories about "appearing out of the void" invulnerable rogues. But it seems none understand this. That rogue was the topic of every conversation I heard. So when a few guards came in, they were perfect targets to vent my anger. I started to to insult them a little bit and called them incapable of catching that rogue. And maybe I got a little bit rough on them too....Just a tiny little bit.
At last my reward for this was a night in prison.
I guess this could be where the story ended, but that wasn't the case. After taking all my possessions and keeping me in suspension for some time a guard finally approached the Kran in the cell next to mine. They asked the Kran if he would prefer to spend a night in prison or regain his freedom and reputation by helping them to catch that dark rogue. Quarry, as the Kran was called how I found out later, hesitated for a moment and then agreed to help them. Next the guard came to my cell and asked me the same question. After some chatting with him, I finally agreed too and the guards released Quarry and me. They asked us to have a seat and started to explain their plan to us. It seems that rogue got somehow hold of one of the guards staffs, which provided him with all those awesome powers I heard about. They came up with a plan to break these powers. All we had to do, was to make sure the rogue robs us and receive some special prepared coins they give us. We were also told that this shouldn't be too dangerous as long as we cooperate with the thief. It seems only victims that tried to fight the rogue or didn't follow his orders got harmed or killed by him. For me this was a welcomed opportunity to help to get rid of that rogue and continue with business as usual in hydlaa. So I agreed to help them with that and Quarry did so too. After giving us the prepared tria and our other stuff again the guards reminded us again to cooperate with the rogue and wished us luck. They finally guided us out of the guard barracks. So my night in prison wasn't that long...

The next night I walked alone through the narrow alleys of hydlaa. This wasn't that bad for me, because it gave me the chance to escape all this gossip and stories of the rogue. So I spend a few hours walking through hydlaa. I just entered a dark alley behind the library in east hydlaa, already starting to think that nothing would happen that night, when I felt the touch of a knife at my neck. I really was sure that I'm prepeared for this situation, but I was wrong. I forgot everything the guards told me about nobody got hurt when when he cooperates with the thief. From rumours I knew the rogue uses some kind of spell that makes it impossilbe for the victims to move. He didn't use such a spell on me...and it wasn't necessary. I stood there, frightend to death, unable to move and started to shiver. He asked me to give him my tria. That was when I noted the smell of blood. When he bend forward to tell me to do it fast, some of his blood was greased to my hair. I relaxed a little bit, grabbed my purse and handed it to the rogue without saying a word. I had only a few tria with me, just for the case that I get a irresistible urge for a beer. And of course the prepared tria of the guards were in my purse as well. To my surprise the rogue seems to have some good manners. Despite his bad condition he thanked me and started to cast a spell. He robed me, but at least he did it with some style. The first spell he tried to cast failed, but after some cursing on the guards staff he manged to disappear with a second spell. I just can guess that I wasn't the first person who gave him some of these special tria. Anyhow, after he disappear I run to the front of the library and shouted for some guards. But it seems no guard was near. A friendly Ynnwn noted me, and agreed to escort me to the plaza to find some guards. When we reached the plaza there was already a crowd. That rogue must have be busy, it looked like he tried to rob another one shortly after me at the plaza. But I couldn't find any guards here too. So I decided to go to Kada Els and see if I can find one there. There I finanally was able to tell a guard that the rogue got the prepared tria from me. For me that was enough trouble for that night and I went home to get some well earned sleep. Despite my tiredness that wasn't that easy at first, but somewhen I drifted into a dark, dreamless sleep...

As news travels around Hydlaa, the citizens become restless and start to gather in groups.

The rogue Vileneck climbs atop of Laanx's statue and starts to shoot magic arrows. But the Hydlaa Guard and a few bold citizens have him surrounded.

The rogue won't give in easily...

...but the guards have him where they want to...

...or so they think, as Vileneck calls on his rogues and they start to create panic and diversion among the citizens in the plaza.

In the end, Vileneck is captured.

The Hydlaa Guards calm the citizens and explain what happened.

The villain and a few troublemakers are now behind bars.

As night fades away making room for dawn, the people gathered in the plaza discuss the events which they had witnessed and try to make sense of everything.
