Is there an update on the 1.0 release where they wipe all the chars?

Hello I'm looking for a new mmo to play. I'm really excited to try out planeshift because of the way the role playing is setup. I've read and agree to all the rules and that's all great.

I've just got really bad timing. The servers are down so I can't do anything right now  :(  So I started reading the forums and found the topic about deleting chars. That very bad. I've never like turn based games at all so I wanted to ask a few questions before I decided to not even try the game.

I haven't read anything that makes the game sound turn based but deleting everyone's chars because some people managed to cheat. Isn't that a little harsh? The last update in that thread was in Feb of 07. How much longer until the 1.0 release is out? Is the plan still 100% delete everyone s char or does the player base have any say in it?

How often does this happen?


Thanks for the answers. I've played to many mmo's to keep up with them all and I don't want to invest my time into one if I know its going to be getting reset. I really hope that if the char wipe is eminent that it happens soon. I could use some time to get used to the game. If its still along ways off I don't know if i'll wait.

Keep in mind i'm a noob here I just found out about the game last night so if i've said anything thats not correct or out dated please feel free to let me know.

I have been playing now for ..um...  over er... well... I forget it has been so long, and still have my original RP character - though I did play with another for a while first, sharing with my husband - until he got too busy at work.  So... I think there will not be a wipe for a long time yet.

If you are into Role Play - as in acting out your character - not just using set actions to play a character created by choices of set mechanics.. then you have come to the right place - WELCOME and enjoy the fun it offers for both those that like to grind.. and those who like to RP...  and mostly those who like to do both!

I was once told that all characters would be wiped in advance of the 1.0 release, so that the 1.0 release would be a fresh start.  It didn't happen.

Welcome to Planeshift. This is a great game and I think you will be happy here. We have a great community. As for a wipe, you need not be concerned. Lolitra is correct, it has been years and there has not been a complete wipe yet. Lolitra has been around longer then my 2 1/2 years so she should know.

Quite obvious, since 1.0 didn't happen yet...
1.0 won't be done for years and years to come, so don't worry about any wipes yet.

nope just a 0.0 version name like Crystal Blue was 0.3 and Molecular Blue was 0.2

so yeah, a wipe someday, whenever it gets released, but re-reading your post...That would mean you could play years and then be wiped, which seemed to be your concern.

May I suggest you try it out, play it.  It may never be "officialy released" and if it is, you may lose your tria and expereince, but you will then know the game and your character and be a part of the community.

Of course you MIGHT not want to spend 20 hours a week into leveling your character up, because that might be hard to take.  But I did, and it was fun. Ready to do it again, someday.
