As stated in
http://www.planeshift.it/setting_overview.html :
\"Stone Labyrinths
The Bronze Doors, located along the perimeter of the first level, access the Stone Labyrinths, a complex of both natural and artificial caves as ancient as the
town itself. It is sure that some of them lead to places similar to Yliakum and even to the surface, but nobody ever came back to report such a discovery. Most inhabitants are sure that some of these caves lead to places similar to Yliakum, and others even to the surface, but nobody has ever come back to report such a discovery.\"
I know there have been several discussions on what should be on the surface, but no one has come to any conclusion. I doubt it will be settled until quite late in the game\'s development.
Personally, I think it would be cool to have a medieval-type feudal system on the surface. Think of it this way: there are all those people that want to have PvP, and it might work out well this way. When you reach the surface, you can choose to join one of the established kingdoms, or perhaps even start your own (likely far, far away from everyone else though). Then you can choose your job, similar to the underground Planeshift world. Only in this case, you are trying to help your kingdom become wealthy and prosperous. I imagine there would be (to some people\'s delight) very large scale battles, as one kingdom attempts to siege another kingdom\'s castle. Such sieges back in the medieval period would last for months, and I think it would be neat if in this case it could last for like a week in real time. It would be more organized fighting that just everyone running out on a field and see who wins, there would be more strategy to it.
Just an idea i\'ve had for awhile
